Former Iranian foreign minister Kamal Kharazi was reportedly injured in an attack on a residential building. The attack, according to a semiofficial Iranian news outlet also claimed the life of Kharazi wife. However it is not clear whether the airstrike was intended to hit the former Iranian minster or another site nearby.
Notably, Kharazi, 81, was helping facilitate a potential meeting between Vice President JD Vance and Iranian authorities, reported New York Times.
Kharazi was foreign minister in Iran’s reformist President Mohammad Khatami's government. He was also a foreign affairs adviser to the late supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in an US, Iran joint air strike.
In 2022, while speaking to a news outlet Kharazi had said Tehran has “the technical means to produce a nuclear bomb, but there has been no decision by Iran to build one,” leading to the world questioning Iran's motives.
As the Iran war broke out on February 28, Kharazi in an interview to CNN said “I don’t see any room for diplomacy anymore. Because Donald Trump had been deceiving others and not keeping with his promises, and we experienced this in two times of negotiations — that while we were engaged in negotiation, they struck us.”
