Story highlights

It's the best time to be obsessed with The Crown with news of a royal wedding in the pipeline

Ever since Prince Harry announced his engagement to American TV actress Meghan Markle followed with a royal marriage on cards next year spring, royals have been the talk of the town.

Streaming giant Netflix's show on the British royal family "The Crown"also saw an opportunity with this and decided to drop the much-awaited second season. The fact that Christmas is around the corner and there's festivity on the block, is just an add-on.

With season 2 coming in, this will be the last time when actorsClaire Foy, Matt Smith and Vanessa Kirby will reprise their roles in the British royal family as they will be recast with another set of actors due to their progress in age.

This season in "The Crown", as seen in the trailer, opens with a marriage in crisis, a marriage that could never be dissolved with divorce. They circle each other with a hostile body language and voices clipped. The season looks to focus on the challenges of their relationship while the break between Elizabeth's and Philips' beds in adjoining suites widen.

Like the previous season, you will have to keep a history book by your side as it broadens into episodes of British history -- the Suez Canal crisis, the Profumo Affair, the Michael Parker divorce, Princess Margaret and Antony Armstrong-Jones’ passionate courtship, JFK’s visit, the Duke of Windsor’s Nazi ties and Lord Altrincham’s scathing critique of the monarchy.

This season is also expected to include rich writing and great production values into the TV content.

"The Crown"season two drops on Netflix tonight from 7 pm AEDT.
