The network has ordered a prequel drama of its most-watched original from writer Jane Goldman (`Kingsman: The Secret Service`, `X-Men: First Class`, `Kick-Ass`) and author George R.R. Martin.
The pilot will take place "thousands of years before the events of ''Game of Thrones''," the network said in a statement, as reported.
"The series chronicles the world`s descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour," HBO added."And only one thing is for sure: From the horrifying secrets of Westeroshistory to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend. it`s not the story we think we know."
Meanwhile, the eighth and final season of "Game of Thrones"is expected to launch in 2019.
