"Black Panther" continued its record-setting runthis weekend as it passed the half-billion-dollar mark in only its third week out of North America. With this, the film is now on its way to becoming one of the highest-grossing films ever, according to industry analysts.
As per a website based out of US, the film has reportedly collectedan estimated sum of$65.7 million for the three-day weekend -- making it the third-highest weekend ever, trailing only after "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" that earned$90.2 millionand "Avatar"with $68.5 million, according to a popular magazine.
The Disney- Marvel collaboration, Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman as the superhero king of an idyllic, fictional African country. The movie has some power-packed performances from starsLupita Nyong'o, Michael B. Jordan, Daniel Kaluuya and Martin Freema.
Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence's"Red Sparrow" is second in position as it tells the story of Russian ballerina-turned-elite spy.In the third spot is MGM's new release "Death Wish," with ticket sales of $13 million. The thriller stars Bruce Willis as a doctor who goes vigilante after an attack on his family. The cast includes Vincent D'Onofrio and Elisabeth Shue.
Next is comedy thriller "Game Night" from Warner Bros., taking in $10.7 million. The movie, starring Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams, tells the story of six friends who get together for beer and games and stumble into a reality game where lives may be at stake.
In the fifth position is Sony's "Peter Rabbit," earning $10 million in its fourth week since release.The film, which mixes live actors with computer-generated animation, is based loosely on the children's book by Beatrix Potter.
