China went on to directly blame the US, Israeli attacks on Iran as the 'root cause' of Hormuz blockage after Trump called on affected countries to seize the key waterway.
United states President Donald Trump in a televised speech on Wednesday said US military will step up attack on Iran in the next two to three weeks, reiterating his stance of preventing Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. He detailed the United States’ ongoing military campaign against Iran and defended Operation Epic Fury. Trump once again said that regime change was not the agenda and main objectives were: destroying weapons factories, destroying their navy and air force and ending all possibilities for Iran to ever have a nuclear weapon.
The statement by Trump invited a reaction from China that said, "military means cannot fundamentally solve the problem, and the escalation of conflicts is not in the interests of either side."
Beijing's foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning on Thursday (April 2) urged "the parties concerned to immediately cease military operations".

He also assured them that US won't let its Gulf Arab allies or Israel "get hurt or fail" due to the Iran war. "I want to thank our allies in the Middle East, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait and Bahrain. They've been great, and we will not let them get hurt or fail in any way, shape, or form," he said.
