Reactions on social media

The video went viral on social media, with users slamming the mall and security guards for disrespecting the elderly man. "The Mall should correct this mistake and provide one year free movie pass to the old person as compensation."

"Those who have self respect should make sure to wear only a pance (dhoti) when going to this GT Mall. Panche is part of our culture. Had we preserved it like Tamils/Malayalis then these scums wouldn't have had courage to stop us in our own land from wearing our attire!," another person wrote on X.

We are yet to hear from the GT Mall management about the issue.

Politics ON

The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)in the state was quick to train its guns on the local Congress government over the incident.

BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla in a post on X said, "Under Karnataka Congress govt patronage, farmers are being abused and insulted for wearing Dhoti? Banned entry in a mall! The Karnataka CM wears a dhoti! Dhoti is our pride.. Should farmer wear a tuxedo in a mall?."

He further called the Congress government the most 'anti-farmer' administrationin the country.

"They even increased prices of diesel and betrayed farmers. Now they are insulting farmers by denying entry in Dhoti. Where is Rahul Baba ? Is this Kisan ke saath Nyay?," he wrote.
