Man, after years of paying taxes and voting, finds he is not a citizen of US

66-year-old Jimmy Klass, whose citizenship of United States is now in perils.

In a rare incident, a66-year-old man in Florida, who was prepping for his retirement, was shocked to find that he is not a citizen of the United States.

The man, identified as Jimmy Klass, made the startling discovery when he was applying for Social Security payments, even though he had livedin the countrysince he was a toddler, paid taxes and voted in different federal elections in the last six decades.

Klass said hewas hoping thatthe Social Security Administration would send a letter to him in 2020 to inform him about when he can start getting his benefits after working for decades.

However, hewasinformedthat his money was“frozen,”reported News 6 Click Orlando.

“Igot a notification thatit was frozenbecause Ihadn’tproven to them that I was here legally.That was their determination,”hesaid, asreported byThe New York Post.

Man'sfather was a natural-born American, motherwas Canadian

Klass'father was a natural-born Americanandhis mother a Canadian, which made him believe he had been given thecountry'scitizenship through his father.

He came to the country in the 1960s when he was two years old.

“Mydad’sroots were in Brooklyn, New York … And two years into my existence, theydecided to load up the truck and move to Beverly,so to speak,”saidKlass,whilespeaking to the outlet.

“We moved to Tennessee Avenue in Long Island, to be more specific. And we moved into the house next to my grandparents,"he added.

Klass spoke about how he was eligible to join the Marine Corps and had also accepted to become a police officer.

“Iwas accepted, but I never took the jobs because I was newly married, had a kid on the way, just bought a house…,”Klass said.

The man is a registered voter with a Social Security card andalso has avaliddriver’slicense. He said that he“acted like a regular citizen".

“I mean, I was accepted everything: photo ID card, I voted here,”Klasssaid.

“Never, ever, ever came about where I was here illegally, even though Social Security says Ididn’tprove it to them. They gave me my Medicare for over a year and a half,"he added.

“Nobody showed up at my door to arrest me yet. But yeah, technically, if you vote, andyou’reillegal —it’sfederal charges,"Klass said.
