Indian man almost dies after inserting 65cm long eel up his anus to 'seek sensations'

An Indian national in Vietnam had to be rushed to a hospital after he shoved a live,65 centimetrelong eel up his anus to experience an 'intense sensation'. The doctors atViet Duc Hospital in Hanoi on July 29 performed an emergency surgery to save his life.

The situation of the 31-year-old patient had worsened as“the eel had bitten through the patient’s rectum and colon to escape into the abdominal cavity,”Le Nhat Huy, deputy director of the Colorectal and Pelvic Floor Surgery Centre at Viet Duc Hospital, was quoted as saying by the Straits Times.

What happened?

The emergency department of the Hanoi hospital received the patient on July 27 withsevere abdominal pain. Upon examination, it was revealed he had inserted a large eel up his rear at around noon the same day.

Scans, X-rays and imaging tests were done and the presence ofa radiopaque skeleton lying horizontally in the abdominal cavity was detected.

Subsequently, a team ofendoscopy experts and anaesthesiologists was arrangedto perform a colonoscopy to remove the foreign object from the rectum.

When the team failed to get the object out through the anus, it went ahead with emergency surgery.

Massive eel found in abdomen

After opening the man's abdomen, a large eel about 65cm long and 10cm thick was found inside.

Along with the eel, a lemon was also extracted by a team of experts.

Advice from the doctors

Doctors said many young people have a tendency to seek extreme sensations using sex toys. On the other hand, some end up using live animals in the process.

“Eels can survive in anaerobic conditions for a long time and have the ability to bite through the gastrointestinal tract," warnedNhat Huy.

"Therefore, people should never insert live animals through the anus to seek intense sensations due to the unforeseeable consequences,” the doctor warned.
