UK: Man dies after XL bully dog attacks him at home

David Daintree, a 53 year-old-man, died after a dog attack by his own pet XL Bully, at home on Tuesday (Aug 20) in Lancashire. The ambulance crew called the police at the scene after receiving the news of a dog attacking the man inside the property. The police have launched an investigation after the dog attack and also shot the dog as it could injure more people. As per the Mirror reports,Daintree, the owner of the dog, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Lancashire Police released a statement saying,"We are investigating after a man was killed by a dog in Accrington. Shortly before 9.30 pm yesterday (Tuesday 20 August), we were called by the ambulance service to reports of a dog attacking someone inside a house at Ashley Court in Accrington.” He added, "Our officers attended and, sadly a man in his 50s was found deceased. He can now be named as David Daintree, 53, who was the owner of the dog and who lived at that address. The dog has since been confirmed to be an XL Bully."

He also mentioned that the dog continued to pose significant harm, so they had no choice but to shoot the dog to prevent further cases. He also said that specially trained officers weresupporting the family ofDaintree.

The police said that, since 1 February 2024, it is illegal to own or possess an XL Bully dog in England and Wales, unless the owner holds a valid Certificate of Exemption.

The East Police officer, Supt Marie Jackson, said that it was a tragic incident that a man had lost his life to a dog attack. He also said that his condolences were with the family of the deceased man. He asked if anyone had any details about the case, to contact the police and help in the investigation.
