Flag Trump's 'incendiary statements' on Facebook: Zuckerberg-funded researchers advice

Dozens of scientists who are conducting research, backed by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, have advised the CEO to atleast flag the posts published by the US President Donald Trump.

The researchers believe that the social media giant shouldnot allow Donald Trump usethe social media platform to "spread both misinformation and incendiary statements."

The researchers have asked Zuckerberg to consider the sensitive time that the country is going through and ensure "stricter policies on misinformation and incendiary language that harms people."

The team of researchers sent a letter to the Facebook CEOgiving their suggestions. The letter had 160 signatories, out of these 160, about10% are employees of Chan Zuckerberg foundations and nearly 60 professors are from leading US research institutions.

The research is led by Debora Marks of Harvard Medical School,Martin Kampmann of the University of California-San Francisco and Jason Shepherd of the University of Utah.

All of them have grants from a Chan Zuckerberg Initiative program,working to prevent, cure and treat neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. The initiative is run by Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan.

The letter calls the spread of "deliberate misinformation and divisive language."

The researchers are looking at using technology to prevent and eradicate disease, improve childhood education and reform the criminal justice system.

The researchers' mission "is antithetical to some of the stances that Facebook has been taking, so we're encouraging them to be more on the side of truth and on the right side of history as we've said in the letter," saidDebora Marks of Harvard Medical School.

The letter clearly voices against the post of Trump in which he said 'when looting starts, shooting starts'. The researchers claimed this was "a clear statement of inciting violence". The researchers have voiced against such insensitive posts and has asked the Facebook CEO to flag such posts.

There has been no comment from Zuckerberg or theChan Zuckerberg Initiative program.
