Ever since the world got hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, all of us have faced a number of challenges that we weren't expecting to tackle in the pre-COVID era. The challenging times tested us in ways more than one. Many lost their jobs, got relocated, and lost a fortune due to the pandemic's impact. To sum it up, we can say that it was a stressful time for all of us. Now, in one of the largest studies on women’s well-being, it has been found that levels of stress, anxiety, worry, sadness and anger among women worldwide were at a 10-year high in 2021 post-pandemic.

According to Hologic Global Women’s Health Index, which conducts an annual survey to provide timely, globally comprehensive data from women's perspectives on their health and wellbeing, worry, stress and anger levels among women rose by 3%, while sadness rose by 6% in 2021 as compared to 2020. The stats are all record highs since the Hologic Global Women’s Health Index began tracking emotional health almost a decade ago.

The survey that was conducted among 66,000 women from 122 countries also reported that 43% of respondents said they experienced some form of worry in 2021, 41% reported feeling stressed, 32% reported feeling sad, and 26% reported feeling angry.

“The lack of progress and, in some cases, backward momentum justify an even louder wake-up call for world leaders to do more for women, whose well-being underpins the health of families, communities, societies and economies,” said Hologic president and CEO Steve MacMillan.

The gender gap in emotional health between men and women has also widened within a year, as 39% of men report feeling worried, 39% stressed, 26% sad, and 21% angry.

“A lot of that has to do with traditional roles in terms of caregiving and responsibility for making sure that children are fed and tending to illnesses – even in high-resourced countries,” said Dr Elizabeth Fitelson, director of the women’s program at Columbia University’s psychiatry department. “Many of these burdens still disproportionately fall on women in addition to needing to work and having multiple roles.”

Study reveals stress levels in women at a 10-year high post-COVID

In an attempt to understand the ‘worry gap’ between the sexes ever since the Covid pandemic, a study has found that women are twice as likely to be worried when compared to men.

According to the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen), UK’s independent social research institute, women are now worrying more about work-life balance, parents, and having children, while a minuscule 9 per cent of men said that they worry about the same.

The research, published in January, found out that the ‘worry gap’ between males and females wasn’t as stark before the pandemic, reports Sky News.

The largest divide in levels of worry was seen in the health and wellbeing matrix, whereby three times more women than men expressed serious concern about their lives.

The same level of difference was observed in other spheres, whereby 43 per cent of women said they were experiencing "intergenerational worries" about their children and parents compared to 1 per cent of the men.

While 31 per cent of women said they were extremely worried about their work-life balance, compared with 20 per cent of men.

“While overall levels of worry appear to be the same in 2022 as they were pre-pandemic, this conceals a stark 'worry gap' that has opened up between women and men," the study's co-author Josefien Breedvelt was quoted as saying.

"Women may still be experiencing a greater impact from the ongoing legacy and stress that the pandemic brought about.

"If ongoing challenges from the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis fall disproportionately on women, we may see an even greater divergence in levels of worry between men and women in Britain."

The study is part of NatCen's annual Society Watch report which seeks to examine the kind of impact COVID-19 pandemic had on social lives by extrapolating a representative sample of their worry levels. It then compared the answers to those collected in 2018 and 2019 to arrive at their conclusion.

Women worry twice as much as men about life, children, parents post Covid pandemic: Study

India's Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman here said climate financing continues to be an area of worry as she flagged concerns over funding mechanism and technology transfer.

It is unclear how the USD100 billion per year commitment given in the wake of COP21 has been extended, Sitharaman said after the conclusion of her meetings at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank here.

"From my side of course one of the issues that I did raise and it is also something which many people do take cognisance of is we actually don't know if there were any measures given to measure if money spent on a particular project by somebody will be part of that USD100 billion," Sitharaman said.

"So, what constitutes USD100 billion&nbsp;How do we measure if actually USD100 billion has been given or only some of them has been given&nbsp;So, not just that USD100 billion per year is coming or not but how do we measure that it is indeed coming or not, is also one of the issues," she said.

Sitharaman said several participants both in the IMF and World Bank meetings highlighted that issue. 
"So funding is continuing to be a question of worry for many countries, as much as even the transfer of technology," she said.

"The issue is, again, as much as it is in the fund, do we know which technology that we are asking for transfer&nbsp;Do we know which are those things which have to be considered for the debate and transfer of technology," she said.

Responding to a question, the finance minister asserted that her view on this was not a reflection of her dissatisfaction.

"I'm not stating it's a statement of this dissatisfaction because India's commitments are fulfilled. There are only six countries which kept the nationally determined commitments.

India's more than done it, and also submitted a report to show that this is what we have done. What had to be achieved by 2030, we have achieved already almost achieved, and now we've scaled up our expectations on renewable, we are touching 450 GW,&nbsp;she said.

"So, I don't think I can be even for a moment, disappointed or dissatisfied, clearly from our side. We are moving with our own resources in fulfilling our commitments," the minister said. 
There are things to be done, she acknowledged.

"It is reminding, because the level at which many countries are, the levels of development at which each one has to be able to comply with an even a nationally determined commitment itself means a lot," she said.

Sitharaman also expressed concern over growing oil prices.

"So even as I'm putting more money into renewables and trying to be cleaner in the energy that we produce, this price rise is something which is going to be of worry to me," she said.

Responding to a question, the finance minister said that sustainable debt funding was discussed during the meetings.

In addition to her meetings at the IMF and the World Bank, Sitharaman had more than 25 bilateral engagements.

Sitharaman has concluded the Washington DC-leg of her US trip.

From here, she will go to New York for an interactive session with the business community before flying back home.&nbsp;She started her week-long trip from Boston.
