This is also the first time the prize money awarded to women cricketers will be equal to their men counterparts in the same event.

India, winner of 2024 men's T20 World Cup, took home $2.45 million in prize money. The difference of $0.10 million is because of the number of matches for the teams in two events as well as the total number of teams which was 20 in men's edition and is 10 in women's event.

The runners-up in Women's T20 World Cup 2024 will take home $1.17 million compared to $500,000 awarded to men's losing finalist South Africa.

The other two semi-finalists will be getting $675,000 in comparison to $210,000 awarded in the last edition. Apart from all this, all 10 participating teams will be getting $112,500 as well.

"The prize money extends beyond the knockout stages, as each group stage win will now be rewarded with $31,154, reflecting a 78% increase from last year’s $17,500," read the ICC statement.

The marquee event kicks off on October 3 with Bangladesh taking on Scotland. The ICC also announced a swap in schedule for October 5 - Australia vs Sri Lanka match will now be played in afternoon instead of evening and England vs Bangladesh will be played in evening instead of afternoon.

BCCI secretary, Jay Shah, confirmed that the apex body approached the Indian board, offering them to host the multi-team tournament from October 3-20. However, with that, Sri Lanka or the UAE are the potential remaining options.&nbsp;

"They [ICC] have asked us if we would conduct the World Cup. I have categorically said no," Jay Shah said to the Times of India, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.&nbsp;"We're in the monsoon, and on top of that, we will host the Women's ODI World Cup next year. I don't want to give any kind of signals that I want to hold consecutive World Cups.”

The ICC got into this tricky situation due to the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh – the original host of this tournament. With the Asian country rocked by violence and security challenges in the aftermath of the anti-government protests, the ICC is mulling over shifting the venue for the Women’s T20 WC.

Although Bangladesh’s interim government is making a last-ditch effort to salvage the tournament, an ICC official, earlier last week, commented on the situation, saying they are considering all options, including shifting the T20 WC elsewhere.

"The ICC is closely monitoring developments in coordination with the Bangladesh Cricket Board [BCB], their security agencies and our own independent security consultants," an ICC statement said. "Our priority is the safety and well-being of all participants."

Meanwhile, strong travel restrictions imposed by the governments of some participating nations, including India, Australia, New Zealand and the UK (England and Scotland) have occurred as barriers for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

McGahey is named in Canada’s squad for the Women's T20 Americas Qualifier, the pathway tournament to the T20 World Cup 2024.&nbsp;According to BBC Sport, the first to break this news, McGahey socially transitioned from male to female three years ago in 2020 before undergoing a medical transition in 2021.

Per an ICC statement released on Thursday, Danielle McGahey is eligible to feature in women’s international cricket after ticking all the requirements needed to participate.

"We can confirm that Danielle went through the process as required under the ICC's Player Eligibility Regulations," an ICC spokesperson told ESPNcricinfo, "and as a result has been deemed eligible to participate in international women's cricket on the basis that she satisfies the MTF transgender eligibility criteria."

McGahey, who featured for Canada at the South American Women’s Championship held in October last year in Brazil, playing four games, said she is happy to represent her community at the international level in cricket.

"To be able to represent my community is something I never dreamed I would be able to do," McGahey told BBC Sport.

Meanwhile, the Americas Qualifiers will be played in Los Angeles, USA, from September 4 to 11, featuring Argentina, Brazil, Canada and hosts USA. The winner will cruise ahead to the global Qualifiers, where teams from other regional Qualifiers will fight for a place in next year’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh.

Cricket’s governing body (ICC) made changes to the Player Eligibility regulations in 2021. In Article 3, the term transgender (dealing with eligibility based on gender recognition) is defined as "individuals whose gender identity is different from the biological sex assigned to them at birth (whether they are pre- or post-puberty, and whether or not they have undergone any form of medical intervention)".

It further states that for a male transitioning to female, the testosterone levels are the key parameters and should be "less than 5 nmol/l (nanomole per litre) continuously for a period of at least 12 months and that she is ready, willing and able to continue to keep it below that level for so long as she continues to compete in the female category of competition".

However, as things stand, McGahey is eligible to feature in women’s international cricket and create history with her participation.
