As the temperatures rise, there's a concern about the world food supply, rising sea levels and regions of Earth becoming too hot to live. According to a study published in Nature Geoscience, led by the University of Bristol, Earth might become a hot, dry and largely uninhabitable supercontinent with all land mass set to merge on one giant plot. Every year, scientific experts update the Doomsday Clock, which shows how close humanity is to a global catastrophe, with the world currently "profoundly unstable." The study used the first-ever supercomputer climate models of the distant future. It showed that the world will have more volcanic eruptions emitting huge plumes of carbon dioxide, increasing the temperature further. Sun might become hotter and brighter in the sky, warming Earth more than ever and bringing the average temperature between 40 and 50 degree Celsius. He continued, "The result is a hostile environment devoid of food and water sources for mammals. Widespread temperatures between 40 and 50 degrees Celsius and even greater daily extremes, compounded by high humidity, would ultimately seal our fate. Humans – along with many other species – would expire due to their inability to shed this heat through sweat, cooling their bodies." According to the study, even if humanity stops using fossil fuels, it would not stop the extinction. Even if humanity survives until the event, there'll be a total wipeout. The only silver lining is that the event is 250 million years away, per the prediction. Dr Eunice Lo, the study's co-author and a research fellow in Climate Change and Health at the University of Bristol, said, "It is vitally important not to lose sight of our current Climate Crisis, which is a result of human emissions of greenhouse gases. While we are predicting an uninhabitable planet in 250 million years, today we are already experiencing extreme heat that is detrimental to human health. This is why it is crucial to reach net-zero emissions as soon as possible." (With inputs from agencies)
