The security video later released by the airport shows some of what happened next. One camera recorded Lorenzo being pulled through a rubber curtain, beyond the reach of his mother and an airport worker. Video then shows him crawling over bags, trying to avoid being pulled through a screening machine. He pops out on the other side, only to tumble down into another room where startled security workers give him hugs. Authorities said his hand was broken.

Up to 150 people have drowned after their boat sank off the Libyan coast Thursday, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) confirmed. Around 300 people are believed to have embarked on the dangerous sea crossing from the Libyan port city of Al-Khums, 80 miles east of Tripoli, UNHCR spokesman Charlie Yaxley said. The vessel got into trouble in the waters off the coast of Libya. Some passengers were rescued by local fishermen, who were later joined by the Libyan coastguard, he added.

A sweltering heatwave is still raging in France, with the highest temperature soaring to 42.6 degrees Celsius in Paris on Thursday, the highest since records began in 1873. This is the second heatwave in France since the beginning of the summer. Since Tuesday afternoon, the French national weather service has issued orange alerts for high temperatures in 80 provinces across the country. By Wednesday afternoon, red alerts had been issued in 20 provinces in northern France, including all of the provinces in the Isle of France, where Paris is located. The record high temperatures forced people to stay away from scenic spots including the Seine River. Instead, people gathered around cooling sprays and street water tap facilities to keep hydrated. Despite the baking weather, some sports enthusiasts continued to play beach volleyball in Paris City Hall's Square.
