The US Labour market sent Washington a warning shot on Thursday. American employers added only 57,000 Jobs in June. That is less than half the 115,000 Wall Street expected, and a sharp comedown from May's 129,000.

US jobs miss big: Only 57k added in June

Labour growth in the US Has effectively grounded to a halt. The jobs that are being added are at best concentrated in just a few sectors. U.S. Non-farm payrolls for december came in at 50,000 versus the 70,000 expected in a bloomberg poll. There was a net 76,000 revisions to the downside to november and october data.

US Job Angst Grows Despite Dip in Unemployment 

Despite the headline gains, economists warned the outlook for consumer spending is becoming more fragile. The University of Michigan’s survey showed consumer sentiment fell in early August, with views on purchasing durable goods slipping to a one-year low.

The immigration crackdown is already affecting the labor market, with May non-farm payrolls showing only 139,000 new jobs and the unemployment rate remaining at 4.2%.

Hiring was driven by notable gains in health care, leisure and hospitality, and social assistance, while federal government employment continued to shrink.
