United States attorney general Jeff Sessions will testify before the House Judiciary Committee about issues facing the Justice Department on Nov. 14.

The Democrats will be questioning Sessions about his statements regarding contacts between President Donald Trump&#39;s 2016 election campaign and the Russian government.

The judiciary committee will have 17 democratic members.

Further, I have no knowledge of any such conversations by anyone connected with the Trump campaign,&quot; Sessions said.

&quot;The suggestion that I participated in any collusion or that I was aware of any collusion with the Russian government to hurt this country, which I have served with honour for over 35 years, or to undermine the integrity of our democratic process, is an appalling and detestable lie,&quot; he said.

Sessions told the senators that he has confidence in Mueller but said he had &quot;no idea&quot; if Trump did because he had not spoken to the president about the matter. Asked whether he would ever take any action to remove Mueller, Sessions said, &quot;I would not think that would be appropriate for me to do.&quot;

Such a move would be complicated and potentially politically explosive. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, the person who would be responsible for carrying out any such dismissal, told a different congressional panel on Tuesday he would not fire Mueller without good cause and he had seen no such cause.

Asked about media reports that he had met with Kislyak on a third occasion at a Washington hotel last year, Sessions testified that did not remember meeting or having a conversation with the ambassador at the event. One of the meetings was a private conversation between Sessions and Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak that took place in September in the senator&#39;s office, at the height of what US intelligence officials say was a Russian cyber campaign to upend the US&nbsp;presidential race, the Post reported.

Trump&#39;s first national security adviser, Michael Flynn, was fired last month after he discussed US&nbsp;sanctions on Russia with Kislyak before Trump took office and misled Vice President Mike Pence about the conversations.

Sessions played a prominent role supporting Trump after formally joining the campaign in February 2016.

At his January 10 Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing, Sessions was asked by Democratic Senator Al Franken what he would do if he learned of any evidence that anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign communicated with the Russian government in the course of the 2016 campaign, the Post reported.

&quot;I&rsquo;m not aware of any of those activities,&quot; Sessions responded, according to the Post. He added: &quot;I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians.&quot;

Officials said Sessions did not consider the conversations relevant to the lawmakers&rsquo; questions and did not remember in detail what he discussed with Kislyak, according to the Post.
