<p>The Indian government on Wednesday stated that it will investigate the charges pressed against Whatsapp of allegedly getting access to the microphones of the devices used by the users without their prior consent.</p>

<p>A few days back, a Twitter engineer had accused WhatsApp of accessing his microphone in the background when he was sleeping.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Reacting to the incident, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar tweeted that an investigation into the case will be carried out by the government to find out if WhatsApp was actually accessing the smartphone's microphone while the phone was not in use.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"This is an unacceptable breach n violation of #Privacy We will be examining this immdtly and will act on any violation of privacy even as new Digital Personal Data protection bill #DPDP is being readied. @GoI_MeitY @_DigitalIndia," Chandrasekhar tweeted.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Dabiri, in his tweet, shared screenshots of his phone which showed WhatsApp accessing and using the microphone of the device multiple times.&nbsp;The tweet went viral and received more than 71.5 million views.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>WhatsApp's response to allegations &nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>Responding to the allegations, WhatsApp said that its&nbsp;officials got in touch with the Twitter engineer.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The company claimed that the problem is likely to have occurred because of a bug in the Android.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We believe this is a bug on Android that misattributes information in their Privacy Dashboard and have asked Google to investigate and remediate," said WhatsApp in a tweet.</p>

<p>The company further claimed that the users have been given full control over their mic settings in the application.</p>

<p>"Once granted permission, WhatsApp only accesses the mic when a user is making a call or recording a voice note or video - and even then, these communications are protected by end-to-end encryption so WhatsApp cannot hear them," it stated.</p>

India to probe WhatsApp 'phone snooping', calls it unacceptable violation of privacy

<p>China's Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong has requested solemn representations with the ambassador of South Korea after the country's president made "erroneous" remarks about Taiwan, stated the Chinese foreign ministry on Sunday.</p>

<p>While speaking exclusively with Reuters, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said that there has been an increase in tensions around Taiwan after forced attempts were made to change the status quo. The president added that he opposes such a change.</p>

<p>"The Taiwan issue is not simply an issue between China and Taiwan but, like the issue of North Korea, it is a global issue," said Yoon.</p>

<p>Sun called the remarks made by Yoon as "totally unacceptable", as per the statement released by the Chinese foreign ministry.</p>

<p>"The South Korean leader made no mention of the One China principle, but equated the Taiwan issue with the Korean Peninsula issue," said Sun.</p>

<p>China claims Taiwan, which is democratically ruled, as belonging to its own territory. The claims made by China are strongly rejected by Taipei.</p>

<p>The Chinese government demands that the nation, with which it shares ties, must recognise Taiwan as Chinese territory.</p>

<p>The complaint was made by Sun after last week the Chinese foreign ministry stated that all the issues related to Taiwan must be handled “prudently” by South Korea.</p>

<p>Retorting to the statement, South Korea summoned China's ambassador to protest against the remarks made by Beijing.</p>

<p>"Recently there has been absurd rhetoric, accusing China of challenging the rules-based international order, and that it’s trying to unilaterally upend the status quo in the Taiwan Strait by force or coercion... The logic is absurd and the consequences are dangerous. Those who play with fire on the Taiwan issue will eventually get themselves burned," Qin added.</p>

<p>China had also held military exercises around Taiwan after its president Tsai Ing-wen held talks with US House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy in Los Angeles.&nbsp;</p>
