<p>About her former husband Dominique Pelicot, she said that so many times, she told herself how lucky she was "to have you at my side,” assuming that he was supporting her when she felt sick with neurological issues that later turned out to be resulting from him drugging her.</p>

<p>"This man, who came to rape an unconscious, 57-year-old woman...I am also a mother and grandmother...I could have been his grandmother," she said about one of the accused.</p>

<p>Her private life was dragged into the court too, including questions about her extramarital relationship.</p>

<p>She said she had told her former husband about it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>She noted it was very hard for him. "He couldn’t imagine for a moment I could do that.”</p>

<p>The question about the extramarital affair was raised in the context of an accused man saying Dominique Pelicot had acted out of revenge over it.</p>

<p>There was also a question about what she was wearing in the videos recorded by Dominique Pelicot during the assaults.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The court heard last week how Dominique Pelicot would take off her pyjamas and dress her up in undergarments after drugging her, and before the assaults took place.</p>

<p>She told the court that the undergarments in the videos were not hers, as the man must have kept them somewhere and dressed her up when she was sedated and&nbsp;unconscious.</p>

<p>Once, she said, he insisted on driving her to a hairdresser, and afterwards she didn't remember the rest of the appoinment at the place.</p>

<p>The court had been told that Dominique Pelicot kept the drugs in the house and mixed them in meals or ice cream after dinner.</p>

<p>She said he had made a lot of meals, which she saw as a sign of him being caring.</p>

<p>On one occasion when she returned after a visit to her grandchildren, he had already made a meal of mashed potatoes, she told the court.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Often, he would bring her ice cream after dinner. "And I thought, ‘How lucky I am, he’s a love."&nbsp;</p>

<p>She said she hardly had any inkling of having been drugged, as she never felt her heart flutter.</p>

<p>"Nuzzi is a uniquely talented writer and we have been proud to publish her work over her nearly eight years as our Washington Correspondent. We wish her the best,” it said.</p>

<p>For her part, Nuzzi's lawyer said she was satisfied with the conclusions of the investigations and noted her successful tenure. &nbsp;</p>

<p>The attorney was 'gratified though not surprised that two different investigations have determined that her reporting on the 2024 campaign was sound and that she did nothing wrong.'</p>

<p>When the issue blew up, Nuzzi issued a statement saying the relationship should have been disclosed to avoid any appearance of conflict of interest.&nbsp;</p>

But now a large study has found that these design innovations cannot solve heart problems or stroke risk. <p>Incorporating movement and structured exercise is a more effective strategy for reducing cardiovascular disease risk, Stamatakis said as quoted by The Guardian.</p>

<p>Emily McGrath at the British Heart Foundation said the study showed the importance of being active during the working day.</p>

<p>"The more people can avoid being stationary, the better...it is important to get active to reduce this risk,” the paper quoted her as saying.<br />

<p>“I’m in shock, there are no words right now....I have never felt so violated and vulnerable,” The Guardian quoted Torres as saying.</p>

<p>“I don’t want anyone viewing me like that. Just the fact that my image is out there, could be saying anything...People will think I am involved in the coup,” added Torres.</p>

<p>“Knowing that this company I trusted my image with will get away with such a thing makes me so angry. This could potentially cost lives, cost me my life when crossing a border for immigration.”</p>

<p>"It’s not me, it’s just my face. But they’ll think I’ve agreed to it,” said Dan Dewhirst, who acted in creating the original anchor that was used in the Venezuela video.</p>

<p>“Countless people contacted me about it … But there were probably other people who saw it and didn’t say anything, or quietly judged me for it."</p>

<p>“I was furious. It was really, really damaging to my mental health," he said, adding it caused an overwhelming amount of anxiety.</p>

<p>The Guardian also quoted an unidentified former Synthesia employee, who said that the AI cannot unlearn once its trained to create a model based on a real person's body language.</p>

<p>In the last 10 years, one million women reported being stalked, mostly by men they knew, with 78 per cent of them stalked by an acquaintance.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Half of the women who were stalked by a male intimate partner were assaulted or threatened with assault by that same partner,” said&nbsp;William Milne, ABS head of crime and justice statistics.</p>

<p>The HBO documentary <em>Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery</em> which aired on Tuesday night (Oct 8) in the US features a series of interviews with coders and cryptographers involved in the early development of Bitcoin, such as Blockstream CEO Adam Back.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But for many in the crypto community, director Cullen Hoback did not give any solid proof to back the claim regarding Todd.</p>

<p>Todd himself said it is ironic that a director who is also known for a documentary on the conspiracy theory group QAnon "has resorted to QAnon style coincidence-based conspiracy thinking here too".</p>

<p>As the buzz around the documentary built up, Todd simply wrote&nbsp;on his X handle,&nbsp;"I'm not Satoshi."</p>

<p>Todd was replying to a post by BitMex Research that asked him to come forward and make a public statement.​</p>

<p>Much of the focus of the documentary to 'nail' Todd as the inventor of Bitcoin is from a specific forum post, where Todd, in reply to Satoshi, appears to continue the stream of thought of Satoshi. It looked as if the same person was using multiple accounts, according to the documentary.</p>

<h2><strong>Who is Satoshi Nakamoto? The many people associated with the mysterious Bitcoin creator</strong></h2>

<p>While the general consensus is that one or a group of people may have used the pseudonym, Satoshi Nakamoto, it is yet to be conclusively proven who the person behind the Japanese-sounding name is/are.</p>

<p>Several names have been cited in the past, with one person even going to court to prove he is Satoshi.</p>

<p>Hal Finney, a cryptography pioneer, was one such person, as he was the first to use the software behind Bitcoin.</p>

<p>Finneya's neighbour Dorian Prentice Satoshi Nakamoto, a Japanese-American man living in California, was long-speculated to be the mystery creator of the cryptocurrency, most firmly in a 2014 Newsweek article. The article was widely discussed but eventually, the man himself rejected any connection to Bitcoin.</p>

<p>Nick Szabo, a decentralised currency enthusiast was speculated to be Satoshi, partly based on the fact that he had published a paper on a precursor to Bitcoin that was called 'bit gold'.</p>

<p>Craig Steven Wright, an Australian academic, went to court to prove that he was Satoshi, even suing for libel those who rejected his claims. In March this year, his claim was dismissed by a British court.</p>

<p>Based on the dates and similarity in the phrase 'computationally impractical to reverse' used in a patent filing and a white paper on Bitcoin, three people - Neal King, Vladimir Oksman and Charles Bry- were identified as possible candidates for Satoshi. They also rejected the claim.</p>

<h2><strong>We will never know who is Satoshi because...</strong></h2>

<p>Satoshi Nakamoto also holds some of the original Bitcoin. This means that there are financial, and possibly taxation, implications for the person or persons to reveal their identity. It could even attract criminals to them.</p>

<p>As per an estimate made in 2021, Satoshi Nakamoto may be owning up to 1 million Bitcoin. At the going rate of the time (which was $68,000), that would add up to $73 billion, making him/them the 15th richest person/s in the world in 2021.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Bitcoin, in spite of its volatility, is still going strong. At the time of writing this, it's valued at $63,126.&nbsp;</p>

<p>If you are a girl or young woman reading this, what would be more worrying for you when going online: FOMO, or the fear of missing out, or the sexual predators and misogynists roaming social media? A rather worrying study in the UK has found that in spite of the hidden dangers, young women are flocking to social media because of FOMO.</p>

<p>The survey by the NGO Girlguiding had more than 2,000 respondents.</p>

<p>It revealed that girls and young women aged 11 to 21 face unwanted sexual images and cyberstalking when surfing the net and social media.</p>

<p>But connectivity is not bringing any more happiness to the young girls. Half of the respondents felt uncertain about their future. Only a quarter felt confident about their lives.</p>

<p>And paradoxically, the feeling that online connections are strong has decreased in the past four years, meaning greater connectivity is only leading to more vulnerability for the youth.</p>

<p>One of the issues reported is not new: the unrealistic beauty standards pushed by social media.</p>

<p>A report in The Guardian quoted a Girlguiding advocate Jia,17, as saying that this pressure exacerbates feelings of judgement and comparison, causing loneliness and low self esteem.</p>

<p>“Being online all the time amplifies this. While we’re ‘more connected’, we’re also more exposed to judgment and comparison – through body shaming, sexist jokes, online harassment and objectification. This fuels loneliness and erodes our confidence, which only makes it harder to feel positive about the future,” the paper quoted her as saying.</p>

The girls and young women face a number of other issues when online: 85 per cent of respondents experienced sexism. For more than 50 per cent, sexism&nbsp;happened in real life, while nearly three quarters faced it online.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sexism fuels thoughts of not feeling safe, with 47 per cent of the girls feeling threatened. This is more than double the rate 10 years ago.</p>

<p>The silver lining of the survey is that&nbsp;44 per cent of the respondents still have hope about their futures.</p>

A report in The Guardian quoted a Girlguiding advocate Jia,17, as saying that this pressure exacerbates feelings of judgement and comparison, causing loneliness and low self esteem. “Being online all the time amplifies this. While we’re ‘more connected’, we’re also more exposed to judgment and comparison – through body shaming, sexist jokes, online harassment and objectification. This fuels loneliness and erodes our confidence, which only makes it harder to feel positive about the future,” the paper quoted her as saying. <p>Similar expressions had been observed in previous studies on primates and dogs. This indicates there is a universal biological basis for smiling expression across species.</p>

<p>A British single mother has been found guilty over the deaths of her four sons in a fire when she went shopping while leaving them at home.</p>

<p>Deveca Rose, 29, was convicted on Thursday (Oct 4) of manslaughter and child cruelty after her children - two sets of twins aged three and four - died despite efforts by neighbours, fire service and the police to save them.</p>

<p>On the fateful day of December 16, 2021, Rose left to shop at Sainsbury’s, leaving the boys Kyson, Bryson, Leyton and Logan in her Sutton, south London home that was strewn with rubbish bags and excrement.</p>

<p>Neighours tried to rescue the kids who screamed for help, but they could not enter the house due to smoke. Later, firefighters who entered the scene recovered the boys from under a bed where they were huggled together, but could not save their lives.</p>

<p>Social services personnel had tried to intervene after the dirty conditions in her house were reported to them.</p>

<p>But Rose did not engage with social service workers, and the case was dropped. If the authorities had intervened more forcefully, the kids could have been living now.</p>

<p>She initially told investigators that the kids were left with a babysitter. Prosecutors argued that the babysitter could not be located and probably doesn't exist, as CCTV footage did not show any such person.</p>

Deveca Rose, 29, was convicted on Thursday (Oct 4) of manslaughter and child cruelty after her children - two sets of twins aged three and four - died despite efforts by neighbours, fire service and the police to save them. On the fateful day of December 16, 2021, Rose left to shop at Sainsbury’s, leaving the boys Kyson, Bryson, Leyton and Logan in her Sutton, south London home that was strewn with rubbish bags and excrement. Neighours tried to rescue the kids who screamed for help, but they could not enter the house due to smoke. Later, firefighters who entered the scene recovered the boys from under a bed where they were huggled together, but could not save their lives. Social services personnel had tried to intervene after the dirty conditions in her house were reported to them. But Rose did not engage with social service workers, and the case was dropped. If the authorities had intervened more forcefully, the kids could have been living now. Shopping, it appears, was her way of escape. She initially told investigators that the kids were left with a babysitter. Prosecutors argued that the babysitter could not be located and probably doesn't exist, as CCTV footage did not show any such person. <p>Nibi was an orphan beaver baby when she was rescued by Newhouse Wildlife Rescue. She became a sensation over the years at the rescue centre with her friendly behaviour and cute antics. She even started building dams indoors with twigs at the rescue centre: after all, she's a beaver, right?</p>

<p>It is known that animals in captivity when released back into the wild, have a low survival chance. Sometimes, exposure to areas larger than their cages or enclosures&nbsp;makes it difficult for them to navigate, often leading their hearts to exert too much, sometimes with fatal consequences. The other causes of death are predators, infections and the weather</p>

<h2><strong>The court battle over Nibi the beaver</strong></h2>

<p>On Tuesday (Oct 1), Newhouse Rescue managed to get an injunction from the release of Nibi into the wild. The rescue house and some 25,000 others who signed online petitions want her to stay with her caregivers. Even Governor Maura Healey appeared to be favouring Nibi to stay with the rescuers, but being a protected species, Nibi will have to eventually abide by the laws of the land.</p>

<p>Her fate will be decided on Friday when a court reviews the case filed by the rescue house against MassWildlife, the wildlife agency of the eastern US state.</p>
