<p>Soon after Rowling tweeted the article, several people were quick to criticize her. Several stated that her tweet not only overlooked the trans-woman and those who identify as non-binary but also attempted to define a woman as a person who has menstrual period.<br />

Several pointed out to the author that many people who identify as women, such as transgender women and women who have gone through menopause, may not get their periods, while some people who do not identify as women may still menstruate, such as transgender men and some who identify as non-binary.<br />

"I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn't hate to speak the truth," Rowling tweeted. "The idea that women like me, who've been empathetic to trans people for decades, feeling kinship because they're vulnerable in the same way as women — ie, to male violence — 'hate' trans people because they think sex is real and has lived consequences — is a nonsense."</p>
