<p>A bill was tabled in assembly, proposing monthly salary hike and other allowances of MLAs in Tamil Nadu by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami despite the strike by transport workers on low wages in the state on Wednesday.</p>

<p>However, it was opposed by MLA from RK Nagar, TTV Dhinakaran from DMK opposed the bill.</p>

<p>Another DMK leader MK Stalin said that opposing the bill that people will laugh at us for a hike when transport workers in the state are on strike demanding salary hike.</p>

<p>Nearly half a dozen transport workers in Tamil Nadu went on an indefinite strike December 30, demanding wage revision.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The strike has paralysed the public transportation mechanism in the state with tens of thousands of buses off road across Tamil Nadu.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The transport unions decided to go on a strike after failed negotiations with the state transport department demanding wage revision among other things.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The workers of the transport department have been demanding for a pay scale revision to Rs 30,000 of which authorities have agreed to pay only Rs 24,400.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Palaniswami has also requested to <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/return-or-face-action-tamil-nadu-government-to-striking-transport-staff-28752">withdraw their strike</a>&nbsp;and report to work immediately.</p>
