St. Clair Avenue West, located in midtown Toronto, is lined with local shops and restaurants. From July 11 to 12, the vibrant corridor was hosting the annual Salsa on St. Clair festival, a cultural celebration featuring live music and dance performances. Around 13,000 people were at the festival when the shooting happened. Toronto Deputy Police Chief Francisco Barredo described the scene as "very chaotic". The police recovered two firearms. This incident follows a separate targeted shooting in North York on July 10, 2026, that killed 22-year-old Abdihamiim Aden. For the North York murder, police are seeking three tall, lanky male suspects.
