Tiger Woods said Wednesday he would be returning to action at the Hero World Challenge in what will be the golf great's first tournament since the British Open in July.&nbsp;

The 15-time major champion posted a Twitter message confirming his involvement in the 20-man tournament, where he is the host, at the Albany course in the Bahamas, from December 1-4.

Woods, a five-time winner of the event, is joined by American compatriot Kevin Kisner and England's Tommy Fleetwood in completing the field.

"I am excited to announce that I will be in the field for this year's #HeroWorldChallenge," Woods said. "A big welcome to @K_Kisner and @TommyFleetwood1 for joining us as well. See you soon at Albany!"

This week has seen Woods caddying for son Charlie this week and he recently said he intended to take part in 'The Match', a 12-hole exhibition, with Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas on December 10 in what could be a busy finish to a restricted 2022 schedule following his recovery from a career-threatening car crash.

The exhibition is set for the weekend before the PNC Championship in Orlando where Woods has previously played alongside Charlie.

Woods missed the cut at this year's British Open at St Andrews, having twice won the sport's oldest major at the Scottish course in 2000 and 2005.

The 46-year-old has appeared in just three professional tournaments this year, all of them majors.

Woods, who needed screws and metal rods to hold together his shattered right leg, made his return to competition 14 months after the accident at this year's Masters.

He finished 47th at Augusta but achieved a victory of sorts simply by walking 72 holes over the difficult layout.

He then withdrew from the PGA Championship after 54 holes, struggling with stamina issues after making the cut.

Golf is continuing to come back to its feet following a prolonged break due to COVID-19 pandemic. On Sunday, Tiger Woods will be teaming up with Peyton Manning to lock horns against Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady in what will be a two-on-two charity match.&nbsp;

This will be a follow up to their clash in November 2018 as Woods, Mickelson and NFL quarterbacks gear up to raise funds for the COVID-19 pandemic relief work when they face off at The Match: Champions for Charity on Sunday.&nbsp;

The 18-hole made for television clash will be held at Woods’ home course at the Medalist Golf Club in Florida. Woods would be hoping to hit some form after the 15-time major winner returned with a disappointing 68th-place finish at the Genesis Invitational.

Mickelson had struggled earlier this and missed the cut in four of his five tour appearances before being victorious in his head-to-head match with Woods 18 months back.&nbsp;

Both Manning and Brady have not hyped their golf skills. While Manning last played with Woods at the 2005 Bay Hill Pro-Am and the 2009 Quail Hollow Championship, Manning has enjoyed his life on the course since retiring from NFL in 2016.&nbsp;

But despite perfect conditions on Torrey Pines&#39; more forgiving North Course, Woods again struggled to generate any momentum, carding a level par 72 which left him four-over after 36 holes.

With the cut line projected at level par, Woods was left revising his plans for the weekend after a disappointing outing in his first PGA Tour event since August 2015.

&quot;It&#39;s frustrating, not being able to have a chance to win the tournament,&quot; Woods told reporters afterwards. &quot;I didn&#39;t make the cut.&quot;

Woods, who now heads to the Gulf for the Omega Dubai Desert Classic next week, took comfort from signs of improvement following his erratic opening round.

&quot;Overall today was a lot better than yesterday. I hit it better, I putted well again,&quot; Woods said.
