<p>United States former president and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was slammed by netizens after he proposed a bizarre solution to the crime which appeared to have been lifted straight from the horror film The Purge.</p>

<p>While addressing a rally in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Sunday (Sep&nbsp;29), the&nbsp;US&nbsp;Republican presidential candidate said that criminals "have to be taught" a lesson.</p>

<p>For this, Trump suggested, "If you had one really violent day. One rough hour — and I mean real rough — the word would get out and it would end immediately."</p>

<p>The first Purge film was released in 2013. In the movie, a 12-hour period was declared every year in the US during which all kinds of crime were declared legal.</p>
