<p>Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed faces some searching questions to answer for the second test against Australia over his bowling attack and batting lineup after Tim Paine's side produced a battling draw in the first test in Dubai.</p>

<p>Usman Khawaja defied pre-match predictions and a poor return on turning pitches in Asia to score a battling 141 and anchor his side's defiance as they survived 139.5 overs in stifling conditions to ensure a draw.</p>

<p>Holder, who scored 52 in West Indies' first innings, trapped Kohli lbw for 45.</p>

<p>The West Indies were hit by injury to wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich early in the Indian innings, and replaced him with substitute Jahmar Hamilton behind the stumps.</p>

<p>Hamilton was far from convincing behind the stumps and apart from a few misses down the leg side he dropped Pant on 24 off Gabriel.</p>

<p>Ravindra Jadeja finally scored his maiden century after almost a decade in international cricket and the Indian all-rounder says being calm in the nervous 90s helped him reach the 'special' milestone.</p>

<p>Jadeja had scored an 86 and 90 in Tests against England but could never cross the hurdle in the previous 37 Tests in addition to the 140 ODIs he has featured in.&nbsp;<br />
Fittingly, he achieved the feat at his home ground and dedicated the innings to his late mother.</p>

<p>He was in the 90s with number eleven Mohammad Shami but that did not put extra pressure on him.</p>

<p>"It is very special because in the past I had gotten to 80s and 90s but was not able to convert. Today, I was not worried, just did not want to play any loose shot. I kept talking to Umesh and Shami and told myself that I needed to play till I score 100," said Jadeja after reaching three figures in the final over before tea when India declared at 649 for nine.</p>

<p>His famous sword celebration followed the hundred with his teammates applauding in the dressing room.</p>

<p>Jadeja was also in the thick of things during the West Indies innings. It turned out to be a comical incident but it could have easily embarrassed the home hero.</p>

<p>Talking about the last one month when he did well in the only Test he played in England before making an ODI comeback, Jadeja sounded satisfied.</p>

<p>"When you are not playing consistently, there is pressure. You want to make every opportunity count. That is what I thought in England also. Batting and bowling in Asia Cup was also good," he said.</p>

<p>"I just try to develop my game with every match. I have not played a lot in 2018. So, you just have to perform whenever you get the opportunity."</p>

<p>The tourists were tottering at 94 for six at stumps, trailing India by 555 runs in their first innings on day two in Rajkot. Roston Chase, on 27, and Keemo Paul, on 13, were batting at close of play.</p>

Former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar writes about Virat Kohli's 'great habit'

<p>Australian opener Matt Renshaw is a doubt for the series-opening Test against Pakistan after suffering a head injury in a tour match in Dubai.</p>

<p>Renshaw, who has a history of concussions, exited the match against a Pakistan 'A' side after being hit by a pull shot from batsman Abid Ali when fielding at short leg on Sunday.</p>

<p>Renshaw was wearing a helmet when he was struck in the side of the head. He pulled it off immediately and sat with his head in his hands before being examined by medical staff.</p>

<p>He came off the ground for further checks and was replaced in the lineup by Marnus Labuschagne.</p>

PM Modi hopes historic cricket match will boost ties with Afghanistan

<p>West Indies completed a crushing 226-run victory over Sri Lanka just after lunch on the final day of the first Test on Sunday as the tourists surrendered meekly following the demise of century-maker Kusal Mendis and captain Dinesh Chandimal.</p>

<p>Set a daunting target of 453, the Sri Lankans crashed from 189 for three in mid-morning to be dismissed for 226 just after lunch, suffering their first Test match defeat at the hands of the Caribbean side for ten years, when they were also beaten at the Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad.</p>

<p>Off-spinning all-rounder Roston Chase triggered the final capitulation in which five wickets fell for just eight runs.</p>

<p>His dismissal of Chandimal in the last over before the lunch interval broke the back of the tourists’ resistance and he claimed three of the remaining four wickets to fall to finish with the impressive figures of four for 15 off 8.2 overs.</p>

<p>It looked so much better for Sri Lanka when Mendis, 94 not out overnight with Sri Lanka on 176 for three, reached his fifth Test century shortly after the start of the day’s play.</p>

<p>However any hope of the visitors seriously challenging a world record target effectively evaporated with his dismissal, caught behind for 102 off fast bowler Shannon Gabriel.</p>

<p>Even the prospects of saving the match or at the very least taking the game into the final session disappeared with the loss of three more wickets before the break, including two off the final over bowled by Chase.</p>

<p>Stubborn nightwatchman Lahiru Gamage had fallen LBW to leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo for just three after more than an hour’s resistance but the death knell was really sounded for the Sri Lankans when Chase accounted for both Chandimal and Niroshan Dickwella in the space of five deliveries.</p>

<p>Chandimal was forced to curtail his innings on Saturday afternoon when on 15 because he was feeling unwell.&nbsp</p>

<p>He resumed after the fall of Mendis and showed no signs of further discomfort in getting to 27 until a flighted delivery from Chase tempted him into attempting to heave over midwicket only for the miscue to offer a simple catch to Kraigg Brathwaite running around to short mid-on.</p>

<p>It was hardly the sort of example he would have wanted to set as Sri Lanka’s captain.</p>

<p>Within minutes he was joined by Dickwella in the dressing room as the wicketkeeper-batsman was trapped palpably leg-before by a quicker delivery from Chase.</p>

<p>"I think our fielding was below par in the first innings when we dropped some important catches,” said Chandimal in reflecting on his team’s disappointing overall performance.</p>

<p>“We need to learn from our mistakes and regroup quickly for the next match.”</p>

<p>Sri Lanka expect to welcome back middle-order batsman Dhananjaya de Silva for the second Test starting Thursday in St Lucia.</p>

<p>Anil Kumble-led Cricket Committee of the ICC today called for greater sanctions for players indulging in bad behaviour and ball tampering.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Led by the former India captain, the committee urged the world cricket's governing body to take tough measures and restore the "culture of respect" among competing teams and its players.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The committee comprises former international captains such as Mike Gatting, Mahela Jayawardene, current international coach Mike Hesson (New Zealand) and former Australia opener and match referee David Boon.</p>

<p>They further agreed that it is important for the host nations to prepare quality pitches keeping the World Test Championship in mind.</p>

<p>"Acknowledging that the preparation of Test pitches that could provide a risk to the competitiveness of the ICC World Test Championship, the Committee urged Members to continue to focus on the delivery of pitches that provide a better balance between bat and ball in line with ICC regulations."</p>

<p>Ball tampering issue which saw Australia's former captain Steve Smith and his former deputy David Warner being suspended for one year due to their involvement in the scandal in South Africa was also highlighted.&nbsp;</p>

<p>&nbsp;"We had an excellent discussion around the issue of player behavior and I'd like to thank Mike Gatting and David Boon for joining us and making valuable contributions, Kumble said.</p>

<p>"The Committee echoed the sentiments of the ICC Chief Executives' Committee and the ICC Board, and, as such, we have made a series of recommendations as part of the creation of a culture of respect we can all adhere."</p>

<p>Some of the suggestions with regards to Code of Conduct included</p>

<p>1)Raising the sanctions associated with ball tampering.&nbsp;</p>

<p>2)Creating a new offence for offensive, personal, insulting, offensive or orchestrated abuse</p>

<p>3)The consideration of the introduction of a new offence of attempting to gain an unfair advantage</p>

<p>4)Creating a Code of Respect</p>

<p>5) Match referee to have the authority to downgrade or upgrade a level of offence or sanction.</p>

<p>The committee also raised concern about excessive personal abuse.</p>

<p>"The group felt that excessive personal abuse and ball tampering were serious offences in the game and that should be reflected in the way in which they are dealt with. There was also strong support for giving the match officials more authority and subsequently greater support around their decision making," Kumble said.</p>

<p>In the meeting, the committee also announced that the toss will remain the fundamental starting point of the match.&nbsp;</p>
