India today successfully test-fired its indigenously developed Advanced Air Defence (AAD) supersonic interceptor missile in Odisha.

The missile is capable of destroying any incoming ballistic missile at low altitude.

The target missile -- a Prithvi missile -- was launched from launch complex 3 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur near Odisha.

In a third supersonic interceptor test carried out today, an incoming ballistic missile target was successfully intercepted.

The interception was carried out within 30 km altitude of the earth&#39;s atmosphere by an interceptor.

Two similar tests were conducted earlier this year in&nbsp;February and March.

The tests form as part of efforts to establish a full-fledged multi-layer Ballistic Missile Defence system.

&quot;Today&#39;s test was conducted to validate various parameters of the interceptor in flight mode and it was all success,&quot; sources said.

The 7.5-meter long interceptor is a single stage solid rocket propelled guided missile equipped with a navigation system.

The interceptor&nbsp;is also equipped with a hi-tech computer and an electro-mechanical activator, sources noted.

The missile also has its own mobile launcher, a&nbsp;secure data link for interception, independent tracking and homing capabilities along with sophisticated radars.
