Suffolk County & New York state have declared a state of emergency after it suffered catastrophic flooding on August 19, 2024. A historic storm dumped nearly 11 inches of rain on Suffolk County. Specialists from Detroit are working to salvage several precious artifacts in a library that they can through freezing and restoration processes.
