A paramilitary attack on a village in central Sudan on Thursday (June 6) resulted in up to 100 deaths.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which have been at war with the regular army since April 2023, attacked the village of Wad al-Noura in al-Jazira state twice with heavy artillery on Wednesday (June 5), said the Madani Resistance Committee.

The committee said the feared paramilitaries attacked the village, causing widespread displacement and casualties.

The committee shared footage on social media, calling it a mass grave in the public square, showing rows of white shrouds laid out in a courtyard.

Over a year, the war has killed tens of thousands of people, including up to 15,000 in&nbsp;West Darfur town alone.

The war's actual death toll remains unclear. US special envoy for Sudan, Tom Perriello, cited estimates as high as "150,000."

The RSF has repeatedly laid siege to and attacked entire villages across Sudan, particularly in the agricultural state of Al-Jazira.

In a statement Thursday, the RSF said it had attacked three army camps in the Wad al-Noura area, and clashed with the enemy "outside the city".

US to delist Sudan from state terrorism sponsors list in exchange of $335 million

A gunman in Darfur, Sudan, killed more than 20 civilians, witnesses have claimed. The incident took place after the field workers returned to their fields for the first time in years.

The victims included two women and few children. This happened when displaced farmers returned back to their fields after they finalised a deal with the local government which involved the landowners and those who care of their fields.

The incident has been confirmed by the tribal chief and witness Ibrahim Ahmad.

While the farmers returned putting their trust in the government,&nbsp;"armed men came on Friday and opened fire, killing 20 people, including two women and children," Ahmad confirmed.

"Because of the violence we hadn't been back for 16 years, and we thought it was over," he said.

"The gunmen arrived on pickup trucks, some of which had machine guns on them. They surrounded us from all four sides and opened fire," he continued.

Ahmad has also said that the death toll from the open firing may rise as several of the wounded are in a critical state in the hospitals.

An anonymous survivor told AFP&nbsp;that out of all the farmers who had returned to make the best use of the rainy season,&nbsp;14 lost their lives immediately, ans&nbsp;a further six died in hospital.

Darfur has been devastated since 2003 by a conflict that has killed 300,000 people and displaced 2.5 million others, according to the United Nations.&nbsp;

Gunman open fired at field workers in Sudan; 20 dead, several wounded

At least 32 people were killed Wednesday when suspected nomadic Misseriya herders from Sudan attacked a village in the disputed oil-rich region of Abyei along the border of South Sudan, a local official said.

Abyei has been contested since South Sudan gained independence in 2011, while there have long been tensions between the South Sudanese Ngok Dinka community and the Misseriya herders who traverse the area looking for grazing.

Kuol Alor Kuol, the chief administrator of the Abyei area, told AFP that heavily armed Misseriya and allied militia attacked the village of Kolom early on Wednesday.

"Thirty-two people were killed among them children and women, and secondly about 24 people are wounded ... and about 15 people including children were abducted and 20 houses burned," Kuol said.

He said the wounded had been evacuated to a hospital in the town of Agok which is run by Doctors Without Borders (MSF).&nbsp;

In 2011, the UN Security Council deployed a peacekeeping force to the area after deadly clashes displaced some 100,000 people.

The United Nations Interim Security Force in Abyei (UNISFA) is made up entirely of Ethiopian troops, with some 4,500 soldiers on the ground.

UNISFA could not be immediately reached for comment on the attack.

The UN Security Council in 2018 warned that the situation in Abyei and along the Sudan-South Sudan border "continues to constitute a serious threat to international peace," and called on the two countries to show concrete progress on border demarcation and monitoring.
