Uttar Pradesh Police killed murder accused Asad Ahmed, the son of mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, on Thursday (April 13) in an encounter in Jhansi, a city in the north Indian state.&nbsp;

Asad was Atiq gang's shooter Ghulam were gunned down by the UP Police. Both Asad and Ghulam were wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case of Prayagraj and had been captured in CCTV footage while committing the murder in daylight.&nbsp;Both were killed during the encounter with the Special Task Force of UP Police.

“Asad and Ghulam were wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case of Prayagraj and were carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh each. They were killed in an encounter with an UP STF team,” said UP Special Director General (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar. 
 
“Sophisticated foreign made weapons were recovered from the accused. Further details are awaited. The UP STF team was led by Deputy SP Navendu and Vimal,” he said. 
 
He said, "Asad and Ghulam were wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case of Prayagraj and were carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh each. They were killed in an encounter with the UP STF team."&nbsp;

Shanti Devi, who is the mother of slain lawyer Umesh Pal, reacted to the news of Asad's killing. She said: "This is a tribute to my son."&nbsp;

Umesh Pal and his two police security guards were shot dead outside his home in Prayagraj's Dhoomanganj area on February 24 this year. Pal was a key witness in the 2005 murder case of the then BSP MLA Raju Pal.&nbsp;

A case was registered on February 25 against Atiq Ahmad, his brother Ashraf, Asad, Ghulam and others based on a complaint lodged by Umesh Pal's wife Jaya Pal.&nbsp;

The FIR was lodged under sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapons), 149 (unlawful assembly guilty of the offence committed in prosecution of common object), 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

<h2>Gangster Atiq, brother Ashraf in 14-day judicial custody</h2>

Meanwhile, a&nbsp;Prayagraj court sent gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf to 14-day judicial custody on Thursday in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case. 
The two were produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate Dinesh Gautam amid security and remained in court for over two hours.&nbsp;Atiq and Ashraf&nbsp;will be kept in Naini jail in Prayagraj till April 26, said advocate Vikram Singh, the counsel for Umesh Pal's wife Jaya. 
Singh said the arguments on the application for their police custody were yet to be completed.

India: Gangster Atiq Ahmed’s son killed in ‘encounter’ by Uttar Pradesh Police

Kolkata Police’s Special Task Force (STF) arrested a Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) operative on Friday in connection with the Burdwan blast case.

“Manirul Islam aged 42 years hailing from Raghunathganj in Murshidabad district of West Bengal was arrested from Kolkata’s APC Road on Friday evening,” said a senior official of Kolkata Police.

STF officers revealed that Islam was an active JMB member since 2010. He was very much acquainted with Maulana Yousuf and Ibrahim who were recently arrested by Kolkata Police.

Islam used to visit Mokimnagar Madrasa frequently, recruited locals and reportedly radicalized them. The recruits were later trained at the same Madrasa where arms training was imparted.

Just seven days ago, the STF had arrested another JMB operative Abdul Matin from Kerala who hailed from Assam’s Barpeta. He joined the JMB in 2010 when he used to study at the Madrasa.

On January 29, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had nabbed two Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen (JMB) operatives from Bengal’s Hooghly district.

“NIA Kolkata arrested accused Kadar Kazi alias Kadoor, 32 years, from Arambagh Police Station area, district Hooghly, West Bengal. He was wanted in Burdwan blast case and was also declared as a proclaimed offender. His associate Sajjad Ali who was also involved in the activities of JMB has also been arrested in the late night operation yesterday. Both the accused are being produced before NIA special court Kolkata today,” an official release from the NIA read.

Of the two arrested - Kader Kazi and Sajjad Ali - Kader was a close associate of Burdwan blast mastermind Kausar.

On October 2, 2014, an explosion was reported at Khagragarh in Burdwan district of West Bengal. Two JMB operatives died in the accidental blast while making bombs while a third one was seriously injured. The investigation in the explosion revealed that the JMB unit and sleeper cells were active in the state.

Several arrests were made by the Bengal Police, however, the investigation was later handed over to NIA.

The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) raided seven petrol pumps which were allegedly using remote-controlled electronic chip in fuel dispensing machines to dupe unsuspecting consumers.

All seven petrol pumps have been sealed and about 14 people were being questioned in this connection, ASP (STF) Arvind Chaturvedi said.

Media reports said several petrol pumps in Delhi were also raided by police.

On a tip-off, STF sleuths last night picked up an electrician who used to instal these chips in petrol dispensing machines which reduced the fuel output, Arvind Chaturvedi revealed.

&quot;On his information, we carried out raids in seven petrol pumps and found that all of them were using the chip and making profits by saving petrol in every filling,&quot; the ASP said.

Raids will also be carried out in other parts of the state as the STF has information that the chip has been sold to a large number of pumps, he added.

The chip costing around Rs 3,000 when installed in the dispensing machines reduced the output by nearly five to ten per cent. The chip is attached with a wire which is linked with a remote control that set the limit, the STF added.

If the dispensing machine is fitted with this chip, a customer will get only 940 ml petrol for the price of one litre.

&quot;On an average, the petrol pumps using this device were earning an undue profit of Rs 14 lakh per month,&quot; the ASP said.&nbsp;
