Hollywood actor Steve Buscemi got punched in the face by a stranger as he was walking in midtown Manhattan. His publicist confirmed the news and called it another "random act of violence in the city". The incident happened around 11:50 am&nbsp;on May 8 around the Kips Bay neighbourhood.&nbsp;

The 66-year-old New York native suffered a swollen left eye and face after the random and unprovoked attack. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital for a checkup and he is okay now. According to reports, he was&nbsp;treated for bruising, swelling, and bleeding to his left eye.

Speaking to People, his publicist revealed that the actor is extremely sad for everyone who has randomly been getting attacked in NYC, highlighting the safety concerns of living in the city.&nbsp;

"Steve Buscemi was assaulted in Mid-Town Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city," the actor's publicist said in a statement to People. "He is ok and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, though incredibly sad for everyone that this has happened to while also walking the streets of NY."

Another actor from Boardwalk Empire was attacked in a similar random attack in Manhattan in March this year. He was struck in the head with a rock by a homeless man, later identified as 27-year-old Xavier Israel, while walking near Central Park.&nbsp;

These aren't just two cases coming out of NYC about random attacks on streets. Several victims, mostly women, have detailed broadly similar attacks in posts on TikTok and Instagram. Reports of the first incidents began appearing on social media on March 17.

Back in March, Bethenny Frankel, former star of The Real Housewives of New York City, opened up about getting attacked in the NYC streets by a stranger. The 53-year-old reality star shared her story in response to a TikTok video posted by a fashion student who claimed she was punched in the face by a random man while walking home. Actor Steve Buscemi &nbsp;has opened about the post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) he suffered after working as a volunteer firefighter during the&nbsp;9/11 terrorist attacks.&nbsp; 
 
The actor has experience working as a firefighter in the 1980s and volunteered for search and recovery efforts during the terrorist attacks in 2001. The actor appeared on Marc Maron's 'WTF' podcast recently and revealed how his mental health was affected while working.&nbsp; 
 
"I kept calling the fire house the day before and of course there was no answer. Because I knew that they would be there," Buscemi told Maron. "And then I eventually learned that five of them were missing. One of them was a good friend of mine I used to work with." 
 
"I was driven to the site that day, walked around for hours and then found my company, found Engine 55 working there," he continued. "I asked if I could join them. I could tell they were a little suspicious at first, but I worked with them that day." 
 
Buscemi eventually volunteered for several more days. 
 
The actor said he did not have any long- term health issues from his time volunteering but the actor does suffer from PTSD.&nbsp; 
 
"I haven’t experienced any health issues, and I get myself checked out, but definitely…. Post traumatic stress? Absolutely," Buscemi said during the podcast. 
 
"I was only there for like five days, but when I stopped going and tried to just live my life again, it was really, really hard," he added. "I was depressed, I was anxious, I couldn’t make a simple decision. All those things. It’s still with me. There are times when I talk about 9/11 and I’m right back there. I start to get choked up and I realize, ‘Ah, this is still a big part of me.’" 
 
The attack will complete 20 years on Saturday and the actor states that it could be a "trigger" for those who survived 9/11.
