Chinese authorities have now launched an investigation into what is being described as a rare mass casualty in the communist country. The suspect was later detained and he has now confessed.

In Yixing, police said emergency services were fully mobilised to treat the wounded and provide follow-up care for those affected by the attack.

The incident comes just days after around 35 people were killed in the southern Chinese city of Zhuhai after a car ploughed into pedestrians.

Student goes on stabbing spree in China after failing exam; eight dead, 17 injured

A man was taken into custody after six people, including four girls, at a movie theater, were stabbed in separate attacks that may be connected, police in Massachusetts said.

Police said a man came into the AMC Braintree 10 south of Boston at about 6 pm Saturday and entered one of the theaters without paying.

The girls, ages 9 to 17, were inside the theater. The man, unprovoked, suddenly attacked them “without saying anything and without any warning” before running out, the Braintree Police Department said in a news release. The four suffered injuries that were not life-threatening and were taken to hospitals.

Video footage showed the man’s vehicle and a license plate, and the information was broadcast to law enforcement, police said.

A vehicle matching that description was later seen in Plymouth, about 27 miles (43 kilometres) south of Braintree. Police said it had left a McDonald’s restaurant, where a 21-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man were found stabbed. Both were taken to hospitals with injuries.

State police found the vehicle another 20 miles south, in Sandwich, and attempted to pull it over, but it didn’t stop and later crashed.

Rockford Police Chief Carla Redd reported that they received the first call seeking medical assistance in the 2300 block of Holmes at around 1:15 pm (local time). This was followed by additional calls for police and paramedics at various locations in Rockford and Winnebago County.

In a statement, the police said: "On Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at approximately 1:14 pm, Rockford Police officers responded to multiple addresses in the area of Holmes Street, Winnetka Drive, and Cleveland Avenue."&nbsp;

"We are currently working through the details of the investigation and further updates will follow as the investigation continues. The suspect, a 22-year-old male, was located in the same area and taken into custody at 1:35 pm," it added.

As per the Winnebago County Sheriff, Gary Caruana, a home invasion was reported near the intersection of Florence and Eggleston.

The home invasion resulted in a young woman being stabbed in the face and hands and getting seriously wounded. A Good Samaritan who tried to help her was also stabbed.&nbsp;
