Russia claimed to have shot down three Ukrainian naval drones that were targeting the Crimea bridge early on Saturday (September 2), said Moscow.

"On September 2, at about 02.20 am Moscow time (2320 GMT Friday), the third Ukrainian semi-submersible unmanned boat, sent by the Kyiv regime to carry out a terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge, was destroyed in the Black Sea," said Russia's Ministry of Defence on Telegram.

It stated that one drone was shot down on Friday and two others were destroyed early on Saturday.

<h2>Kyiv's repeated attacks on Crimea bridge</h2>

Kyiv, which has expressed its plans to reoccupy Crimea, has been targeting the strategic bridge repeatedly which connects the peninsula to the Russian mainland. 
 
Crimea, which was annexed in 2014 by Russia, has been numerously targeted by Kyiv throughout Ukraine's offensive of Moscow but in recent days it has been facing more intense and increased attacks.

Last month, the Russian-installed governor of the peninsula said that three Ukrainian missiles were shot down by the Russian air defence forces over the bridge, which is one of the pet projects of Russian President Vladimir Putin. 
 
The concrete bridge, which is 18 kilometres in length, consists of two parallel structures, one kept for rail traffic and the other reserved for road traffic. The road section of the bridge, which has been used multiple times to transport military equipment, was majorly damaged in an attack in July.
