Three broken idols of Hindu Gods have been recovered from the ancient Hindu Temple in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal, authorities said on Monday (Dec 16).

The idols were found in the well near the Shiv-Hanuman Temple, which was opened on Saturday (Dec 14) after being closed for the last 46 years.

Sambhal Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shrish Chandra, who was present at the site, said that the idols were recovered during the digging of the well.

“The area has been secured so that excavation can be done smoothly,” he added.

The Shiv-Hanuman Temple has been closed since 1978 and was reopened by the authorities two days ago after they “stumbled upon” it during a drive against power theft. The devotees also painted religious slogans like 'Har Har Mahadev' and 'Om Namah Shivay' on the walls of the temple.

After the reopening of the temple, the premises were cleaned and electricity was restored. CCTV cameras were also installed in the temple for security reasons.

On November 24, a clash broke out between protesters and security personnel in Sambhal after a court order for a survey of a mosque, which led to four people being killed and many others getting injured.

On Sunday, Sambhal's Superintendent of Police (SP) Krishan Kumar and District Magistrate (DM) Rajender Pensiya visited the newly uncovered temple to offer their prayers.

Amid the rising tensions in Sambhal, the district administration earlier had started an anti-encroachment drive to remove unauthorised constructions from public areas. The operation has also been conducted in Chandauli for the last two months, according to Sambhal SDM Vandana Mishra.

A famous temple in Jammu and Kashmir's (J-K) Gulmarg was gutted&nbsp;in a blaze early Wednesday (June 5), news agency PTI reported citing officials. The fire broke out&nbsp;in the Shiv Temple, which is also known as Rani Temple, before dawn.

Officials told PTI that police assisted by locals put out the fire but could not save the temple.&nbsp;The cause of the fire was not immediately known.

In a post on X, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah condemned the fire incident. "Very sorry to hear about the fire in Gulmarg that seriously damaged the famous Shiv Mandir," Abdullah said.

"I hope the administration quickly establishes the cause of the fire &amp; reconstructs this place of great religious (and tourist) significance as soon as possible," he added.&nbsp;

The impact of these protests was manifested in a joint letter written by as many as ten US lawmakers, urging President Donald Trump to raise the matter during his meeting with Khan last month.&nbsp;

The letter highlighted the widespread issue of enforced disappearances at the hands of the Pakistani government and shed light on the human rights abuse of minorities, including the abduction and forced conversion of Hindu and Christian girls.

Before being elected as Prime Minister, Khan had admitted in multiple TV interviews the involvement of Pakistan`s intelligence agencies in enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings and vowed to resign if he was unable to put an end to the practice, holding those involved responsible.

For the situation of minorities to improve in Pakistan, it would require more from the state than the isolated efforts such as restoration of Hindu temples, or the visit to one as a display of sanctimony.

Turning blind eye to the situation back home, he has now instead intensified his rhetorics against the BJP and RSS, so much so that even his independence day speech was majorly focused on attacking the two.&nbsp;
