SAG-AFTRA has told its members to not work on an indie movie called ‘The Curse of the Clown Motel’ as it has “failed to demonstrate its compliance with SAG-AFTRA’s required Covid-19 safety standards and protocols for a safe set.”

As per reports, notices reading Do Not Work have been found on the set. Kalon Entertainment, the production house behind the project ‘The Curse of the Clown Motel’ has not said anything yet on the issue.

SAG-AFTRA’s latest Do Not Work notice says that “members are hereby instructed to withhold any acting services or performance of any covered work for this production until further notice from the union. Please note, accepting employment or rendering services on The Curse of the Clown Motel may be considered a violation of Global Rule One. Violating this order may result in disciplinary action in accordance with the SAG-AFTRA Constitution.”

The union’s Global Rule One, which requires members to work only for signatory companies, states: “No member shall render any services or make an agreement to perform services for any employer who has not executed a basic minimum agreement with the union, which is in full force and effect, in any jurisdiction in which there is a SAG-AFTRA national collective bargaining agreement in place.”

The decision was made over the weekend as the union cited “his antagonism of the union’s journalist members and disregard for the values and integrity of the union.&nbsp;

The statement from SAG-AFTRA president Gabrielle Carteris further states: “Preventing <a href="https://www.wionews.com/topics/donald-trump">Donald Trump</a> from ever rejoining SAG-AFTRA is more than a symbolic step. It is a resounding statement that threatening or inciting harm against fellow members will not be tolerated. An attack against one is an attack against all.”

A disciplinary action against Trump had been initialised by SAG-AFTRA in mid-January following the January 6 attack on the US Capitol. However, before the union could officially expel him, Trump resigned his membership, saying that the union had “done nothing” for him.

Trump had been a member of SAG-AFTRA since 1989 and has appeared in film and television productions such as ‘Home Alone 2,’ ‘The Nanny’ and ‘Sex and the City.’

“WHEREAS, on or about January 13, 2021, disciplinary charges were filed against member Donald J. Trump (“Trump”), alleging that he engaged in actions antagonistic to the interests and integrity of SAG-AFTRA and its members in violation of Article XIV of the Constitution. The charges allege that the former President of the United States incited insurrection against the U.S. government at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, and urged and incited anti-journalist animus that resulted in injuries and harm to SAG-AFTRA member journalists; and

WHEREAS, on or about January 19, 2021, the National Board conducted a probable cause determination in which it found that there was sufficient basis for such charges to proceed to a disciplinary hearing; and

WHEREAS, the Disciplinary Committee had set a hearing to be conducted on February 5, 2021, to hear evidence on the charges, and gave proper and sufficient notice to Trump of the hearing; and

WHEREAS, on February 4, 2021, on the eve of the hearing, Trump submitted a letter of resignation from his membership in SAG-AFTRA to President Carteris; and

WHEREAS, by resigning from SAG-AFTRA, Trump voluntarily relinquished any membership rights he may have had under SAG-AFTRA’s governing documents as well as under federal law; and

WHEREAS, the evidence of Mr. Trump’s misconduct and actions antagonistic to the interests of the union and its members is widely known and has been reported by many media sources; and

WHEREAS, pursuant to Article III(A)(2) of the Constitution, “The National Board has discretion to deny membership to any applicant if, in its judgment, his or her admission to membership would not be in the best interests of the Union;”

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the National Board exercises its discretion pursuant to Article III(A)(2) of the Constitution, as follows:

The National Board hereby finds that the well-documented actions by Donald J. Trump to undermine the peaceful transition of power in the United States, and to undermine the delivery of truthful information to the public by attacking journalists is anathema to the values embodied by SAG-AFTRA and to the members of SAG-AFTRA; and

The National Board hereby finds that any future re-admission to membership of Donald J. Trump would not be in the best interests of the union; and

The National Board hereby directs that any future application for admission to membership in SAG-AFTRA by Donald J. Trump shall be denied.

Five board members including broadcast journalists abstained.”

The Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) president Gabrielle Carteris and national executive director David White on Tuesday (local time) posted a message to the labour union website with an update to COVID-19 filming protocols amid the current surge in cases. 
 
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the note read, before acknowledging the concern and need to take immediate action, "We are writing to let you know that we are closely monitoring the recent surge in COVID-19 infections along with the reported lack of intensive care unit (ICU) beds throughout the state of California and particularly in Los Angeles County." 
 
The message outlined, "Most entertainment productions will remain on hiatus until the second or third week of January if not later. This means that the number of our member performers working on sets right now is reduced. Our safety protocols ensure appropriate precautions for the holiday hiatus period including additional time for testing prior to the resumption of production." 
 
The labour union will continue monitoring the situation in connection with public health officials. It urged all members to remain vigilant and "adhere to safety principals to protect yourselves, your families, communities and colleagues."Along with the reminder to frequently wash hands and maintain social distancing, a link was given to SAG-AFTRA`s list of COVID-19 safety tips. 
 
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, earlier on Tuesday, the regional stay-at-home order was extended in California, with no specific end date. 
 
Additionally, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health on December 24 sent an update to local film industry members with a reminder to exercise caution and "strongly consider pausing work for a few weeks during this catastrophic surge in COVID cases." 
 
Los Angeles on Tuesday issued a media advisory detailing the availability of new permits when the new year begins, noting that the film industry is "highly invested" in efforts to control COVID-19 as demonstrated by the strict safety protocols that have been in place thus far. 
 
According to L.A. Public Health, there are currently 12,979 new COVID-19 cases in L.A. County and over 7,181 people are hospitalised.&nbsp;
