&nbsp;Russian navy divers practised submarine rescue operations in the Sea of Japan at a record-breaking depth of 416 metres.

The crew spent three days on preparations and then used a submersible vessel to get to the sea floor from board of Igor Belousov rescue ship.

The crew left the capsule, inspected the bottom, practised rescue activities and unfolded the national flag.

Igor Belousov is a rescue vessel belonging to Russia's navy in the Pacific, which is capable of bringing up to 60 people to the surface from the depth of up to 450 metres, according to the defence ministry.

The largest submarine accident in recent Russian history happened almost one month after the first inauguration of President Vladimir Putin.

On Aug. 12, 2000, the Russian guided missile submarine K-141 Kursk, sank to the floor of Barents Sea after two explosions in its bow. All 118 men aboard the nuclear-powered sub died.

After recovering the remains of the dead from the sub, officials determined that 23 crew members, including the Kursk's commander, had survived the initial accident before suffocating.
