Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) ward councillor Kedar Rai was shot dead in Patna early Thursday, ANI reported.

According to ANI, Rai was shot at three times by some unknown assailants while he was on his morning walk.

He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared &ldquo;brought dead&rdquo; by the doctors.

Rai was a close confidante of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav.

The assailants fled from the site after shooting Rai.

The police have begun probing the incident, ANI reports.&nbsp;
