A List released by Forbes has revealed that there are more billionaires than ever before and pop star Taylor Swift is one amongst the many others on the list.

The latest rich list, a collaboration between 360 ONE Wealth and Hurun India, notes that India’s rich are cumulatively worth Rs 108 lakh crore (approximately $1.3 trillion) — an increase of 8.5 per cent compared to last year.

"The list is a testament to the remarkable growth and dynamism of India’s economy. The cumulative wealth of our listers has surged past the combined GDP of Singapore, UAE, and Saudi Arabia," says Yatin Shah, Joint CEO, 360 ONE Wealth.

With a total net worth of over Rs 8.08 lakh crore, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani has overtaken Adani Group founder Gautam Adani to secure the richest Indian title, says the report. Notably, Adani's fortune, which now stands at 4.74 lakh crore, has fallen 57 percent in a year, following the Hindenburg report.

Cyrus Poonawala, who owns the vaccine-maker Serum Institute of India, is third on the list, while HCL's Shiv Nadar and UK-based Indian billionaire Gopichand Hinduja are fourth and fifth in the rich list, respectively.

The report finds that 1,319 individuals have a net worth of over 1,000 crore ($120 million), which is an increase of 76 per cent over the last five years. Moreover, the rich list has 278 new faces, who cumulatively won wealth worth Rs 7,28,200 crore ($88 billion).

Calling India a “shining moon” in an uncertain global economy, Anas Rahman Junaid, MD and Chief Researcher, Hurun India, adds, "India has welcomed so many fresh faces even in what's termed a 'challenging year'. This surge in billionaires&nbsp;is the second most prolific since the list's inception in 2012."

Radha Vembu of Zoho has overtaken Nykaa's Falguni Nayar to become the richest self-made woman in the latest list. It is worth noting that Nykaa's shares have been underperforming, compared to its peers in the consumer tech sector.

Bengaluru-based Kaivalya Vohra, 20, who founded the grocery delivery start-up Zepto, is the youngest self-made rich individual. Thirty-eight-year-old Neha Narkhede,&nbsp;founder of Confluent, a streaming data technology company, is the youngest self-made woman entrepreneur.

But at 94, Mahendra Ratilal Mehta, founder of Precision Wires India, has proven that age is just a number, debuting in the 2023 rich list.

A record 871 entrepreneurs or 66 per cent of them are self-made or, in other words, first-generation wealth creators. This figure stood at just 367 five years ago. In addition, 186 of the 278 new faces this year are self-made.

India 's Tier-X cities — popularly called as 'metros' — continue to be a hub for the wealthy. With 328 individuals, Mumbai tops the rich list followed by New Delhi (199) and Bengaluru (100).

In a clear sign of India's diversifying economy, 21 new cities have made their debut in this year's list. Telangana's Ranga Reddy, Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon, and Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad have contributed more than one entrepreneur to this year's list.

India’s 19-year-old entrepreneur and founder of grocery delivery app Zepto, Kaivalya Vohra, became the latest person to join the rich list club of 1,103 Indians across 122 cities, who now have cumulatively accumulated their wealth of Rs 100 trillion, according to IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2022.

The report said that 221 billionaires made it on the 2022 list, down 16 compared with last year, while 13 people born in the 1990s have been added—all of whom are self-made, including Vohra.

The report further noted that these 1,103 Indians have a net worth of Rs 10 billion each — an increase of 62 per cent over five years.

“Cumulative wealth has increased by 9.4 per cent, while average wealth has decreased by 1 per cent. 602 individuals saw their wealth increase or stay the same, of which 149 are new faces, whilst 415 saw their wealth drop and there were 50 dropouts," IIFL Wealth and Hurun India said in a statement.

The study further said that over 82 per cent of the billionaires on the list are above the age of 50, and only 0.6 per cent of the rich on the list are below 30.

The study noted that the pharma sector contributed the most to the list, with 126 entrants, while Chemicals and Financial Services added the greatest number of new entrants.

“Gurugram debuted in the top 10 cities producing the most number of entrants and we have a record addition of 149 new faces to the list from 32 industries and 36 cities," said Anirudha Taparia, Joint CEO, IIFL Wealth.

The study pegs Adani and family's wealth at a staggering Rs 10.94 trillion.

“The trends prove that India has taken booster shots against the global crisis. Be it the Ukraine war or inflationary pressures, the India growth story continues despite all odds as India also gave a new No. 2 —&nbsp;Gautam Adani&nbsp;— to the Hurun Global Rich List,” said Anas Rahman Junaid, managing director and chief researcher, Hurun India.

“The unprecedented wealth creation in the past five years in India, when other countries are stalling and are in recessionary mode, reaffirms India as the ‘engine of growth’ for the global economy. Remember, the new additions to the list have occurred at a time when valuations are at a low, both in the listed and privately-held companies,” said Junaid.

In a startling discovery, the study found in 86 per cent of countries the majority of people thought they could achieve their absolutely "ideal lives" with $10 million or less with $1 million or less in some countries.

However, the research found 8 to 39 per cent of people across countries wanted as much money as they could get indicating "unlimited wants".

The study asked Americans how much amount was needed for an ideal lottery prize, 46 per cent of Americans said they were ok with $10 million or less.&nbsp;

In the UK, 26 per cent of people were satisfied with $1 million with most saying that $10 million or less would be alright while thirteen per cent said they would like $100 billion.

In India, Argentina and Russia, 50 per cent of people said they were fine with $1 million or less.&nbsp;

The research was conducted among 33 countries spanning six continents and 42 communities and was published in Nature Sustainability.

The research concluded that the assumption of "unlimited wants" was not universal and that it "actually applies only to a minority of people".

According to a report, the fortune of the world's richest families grew over 22 per cent in the past year with the Waltons who head the retail giant Walmart in the US topping the list for the fourth consecutive year.

According to Wealth-X's 2021 billionaire census, nearly 60 per cent of billionaires last year were "self-made".

World’s 25 wealthiest families are now worth $1.7 trillion; grew richer in one year

NRI businessmen Hindujas have retained their position as the richest Asians in the UK in 2017 with an estimated wealth of 19 billion pounds, an increase of 2.5 billion pounds over last year, according to an annual ranking of the richest Asians in Britain. 
 
Steel tycoon Lakshmi N Mittals secured the second place with a fortune of 12.6 billion pounds - up from 6.4 billion pounds last year - in the Eastern Eye Asian Rich List, Britain&#39;s 101 Wealthiest Asians 2017, released last night. 
 
According to the list, the Hinduja brothers - Srichand and Gopi in London, Prakash in Geneva and Ashok in Mumbai - have seen sharp increases in profitability in Ashok Leyland, InduSind bank, Gulf Oil, energy and real estate. 
 
This has justified the family&#39;s long adopted policy of pursing the path of diversity, the list said. 
 
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, who was the Chief Guest at the 20th Annual Asian Business Awards organised by the Asian Media &amp; Marketing Group, presented the first copy of the Rich List to G P Hinduja, Co-Chairman of the Hinduja Group.
