Scolding and threats to the victim The woman said for more than two years after she rejected her professor, he assigned her many tasks, scolded her and even threatened that she would not graduate. She posted audio clips on the social media platform which she said were evidence of the harassment. She didn't reveal her face in the video as she was wearing a mask but held up an identification card. The investigation The woman's post on Weibo garnered millions of likes, with many users leaving comments in support of the student. As per the Associated Press report, Renmin University said on Monday it concluded that the complaints against the professor were true following an investigation. Apart from firing the professor, the university also revoked his CCP membership and reported the incident to authorities in accordance with the law. As per a CNN report, the 25-year-old man has been identified only by his surname Ma. A police statement released on Monday shows that he is reportedly a&nbsp;graduate of Beijing's prestigious Renmin University&nbsp;—&nbsp;the institution from whose database the data was stolen.

The website has now been shut down. However, over the weekend, multiple screenshots were posted on Weibo, a social media network often called China's alternative to Twitter.

Users claimed that Ma stole the student's public information from&nbsp;the university database when he was studying there.&nbsp;

As per user posts, the website was in operation since 2020. It allegedly rated the physical appearance of both graduate and undergraduate students.

Screenshots of the website as per CNN showed profiles of students that along with their names and student IDs listed their dates and place of birth alongside pictures and assigned scores.

A staff member of Renmin University told state-run China News Weekly that the stolen data of students spanned several years. It is reportedly from between the years 2014 and 2020.&nbsp;

Screenshots of the website were first posted on Renmin University's student discussion post and since then have gone viral on Weibo, attracting hundreds of millions of views.

As per CNN, in a statement, the University which is located in Beijing's Haidian district on Sunday said that it is in contact with the police and is cooperating with the investigation.

The school will instead conduct remote interviews for students who meet their qualifications, according to Chinese news agencies.

However, experts claim that the change will make it easier for overseas students to gain admission into these institutions and could be linked to the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) continued propaganda efforts abroad.

The decision is likely in response to recent closures of Confucius Institutes over growing concerns that China's influence is negatively affecting freedom of speech on campuses around the world. 
 
According to Chinese education specialist Shi Dajun, a Peking University graduate, ''now that the Confucius Institutes are running into obstacles, we are seeing them take a new direction.''

''The goal is to have foreign students studying in China take the CCP’s message back to their own countries to help spread Beijing’s narrative,'' Shi said.
