REFORM UK CRISIS: Nigel Farage faced fresh scrutiny as Reform UK held its annual conference in Birmingham amid a controversy over alleged foreign funding.

The row follows an undercover investigation that reportedly captured two senior Reform UK officials discussing potential £500,000 foreign funding for the party. Reform UK said the officials had stepped down pending an internal investigation and denied breaking British law.

Farage insisted that Reform UK had accepted no illegal money and described the investigation as entrapment. The Electoral Commission is reviewing the claims and is in contact with police, adding to the pressure surrounding the party.

Despite the controversy, Reform UK supporters rallied behind Farage, while protesters interrupted his conference speech. Immigration remains central to the party's agenda, including its pledge to stop small boat crossings and remove illegal migrants.

Farage has also agreed an immigration pact with France's National Rally, with both parties pledging cooperation if they win power.

REFORM UK CRISIS | Nigel Farage Faces Fresh Foreign Funding Controversy At Party Conference

UK elections 2024: The numbers are in and the verdict is out. Labour Party's Sir Keir Starmer is the new United Kingdom Prime Minister after his predecessor and Conservative Party heavyweight Rishi Sunak helmed over the worst electoral performance of Tories in modern times.

But even as the Labour won 412 of 650 seats, it won just over one-third of the national vote. The Conservatives' vote share fell by 20 percentage points as their members in the House of Commons fell to 121 against 251.

But between Starmer's elevation to Downing Street and the electoral decline of the Tories, the underdog story remains concealed within the small seat count (just 4) won by Nigel Farage's Reform UK Party.

Founded in 2018 at the peak of Britain's Brexit politics, Farage's party had never won a parliamentary seat at any election before July 4. But the breakthrough came for the Reform Party as it won five seats in the House of Commons. The Reform UK leader himself was elected for the first time in his eighth election.

But the five seats Farage's party won does not show the significant support it won across the UK, taking away support from both the Tories as well as the Labour.

The party came second in 103 seats. Of these, 93 were finally won by the Labour.

Sunak had earlier miscalculated that Farage was planning to sit out the election. But he dramatically returned to front-line politics as the leader of the right-wing Reform UK party two weeks into the election.

Reform UK went surging in the polls and even briefly pushed the Sunak's Tories into an embarrassing third place with some pollsters.

Farage himself defeated the Conservative candidate, Giles Watling, a representative of the coastal constituency in Essex since 2017. The Reform UK leader won 21,225 votes to Watling’s 12,820, a majority of 8,405.

"We are coming for Labour… be in no doubt about that," he said, in a short speech at a leisure centre in the seaside town.

Inside Nigel Farage's rise that shows extent of its impact in UK elections

Leader of Reform UK, Nigel Farage, celebrates his victory of the Clacton-on-Sea seat. It is at the eighth attempt that Farage has been elected as a member of the parliament. His electoral breakthrough comes as his party Reform UK gains significantly more votes than the Conservatives in some seats.

Farage calls his win "the first step of something that is going to stun all of you". Apart from Clacton, Reform UK secured Boston and Skegness with chairman Richard Tice, while Rupert Lowe secured Great Yarmouth. Lee Anderson claimed the seat of Ashfield, becoming the party’s first-ever MP.

Farage is a pro-Brexit campaigner and has been an influential player during Britain's decision to exit the European Union. He joined the election race a month ago, which stunned the Conservatives, who are already behind the left-wing Labour Party.

“We are coming for Labour,” Farage announced as the Reform contested to win 13 seats in the UK's general election. He believes Reform's performance in the election has so far been remarkable.

Farage has now become an elected member of parliament. He previously secured the seat of Clacton in Essex in 2016, winning 46 per cent of the votes.

“There is a massive gap on the centre-right of British politics and my job is to fill it, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do,” Farage said in his speech after his victory.

For seven years he had been trying to win in Westminster but had failed. This term will mark as a testing ground for his ability to stay true to his promises made to voters.

“My plan is to build a mass national movement over the course of the next few years and hopefully be big enough to challenge the general election properly in 2029,” said Farage on winning the seat.
