An Army driver was injured and some other soldiers suffered minor bruises after terrorists attempted to attack their vehicle in Arihal area of Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. According to the Army, the terrorists tried to attack a mobile vehicle patrol of 44 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) with an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in the evening.

The sources added that top Hizbul-Mujahideen commander and the last surviving terrorists of the former commander Burhan Wani group, Latief Tiger, was among the killed in the encounter. Apart from him, sources say two other terrorists were also killed including Tariq Moulvi. However, there was no confirmation from the forces about their identity.

The clashes have erupted around the encounter spot between protestors and security forces after the encounter broke out. Mobile internet, train service between Srinagar-Banihal will also remain shut given the situation.&nbsp;

The last leg of Anantnag Lok Sabha election is scheduled to be held in the district on Monday and the encounter has made the situation difficult for the administration. The Election Commission had decided to hold elections in three phases for the one seat, in a first since the independence of India, given the fragile situation in south Kashmir.&nbsp;

All the terrorists who appeared with Hizbul-Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in a group picture that was circulated in 2015 on social media have been killed by forces now. One among them, Tariq Pandit was captured alive by the security forces earlier in 2016.&nbsp;

Terrorists on Monday evening<a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/3-army-jawans-martyred-in-pakistani-shelling-in-jks-rajouri-31767" target="_blank"> attacked an Indian Army camp</a> in South Kashmir&rsquo;s Kakapora area.

The police and Army sources here said that a rifle grenade was fired towards the company headquarters of the Army&rsquo;s 50 Rashtriya Rifles at Kakapora in Pulwama.&nbsp;

No loss of life or injuries have been reported so far.

After the attack, the area has been cordoned by the Army and Quick Reaction Team (QRT) of police and CRPF.&nbsp;

The soldiers present inside the camp promptly fired their rifles towards the direction of the attack.&nbsp;

The attack on the Indian Army camps comes a day after cross-border firing and shelling by Pakistani soldiers along the Line of Control in Rajouri district. Four soldiers including a captain were killed in the shelling.

Terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) claimed responsibility for the attack. In a statement, JeM spokesman Hassan Shah claimed that the outfit carried out the attack on the RR camp at Kakapora in Pulwama in south Kashmir by firing rockets, causing heavy damage to the Army.

According to police, a local woman also lost her life during the late night cross firing on Sunday as she was trapped in a house where the terrorists were hiding.

Along with the deceased woman, around six to seven people were stuck inside the house and were later rescued by the security forces.

Police said the terrorists were likely to be members of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and arms and ammunition were also recovered from their possession.

A search operation is on in the area.
