The crisis in Congress has been going on for week as Rahul has refused to listen to calls from party leaders to reconsider his decision to resign.

On Tuesday, party workers and leaders staged a sit-in outside Congress headquarters and urged an unrelenting Rahul Gandhi to withdraw his resignation.

Rahul Gandhi had offered to step down on May 25 at a meeting of the Congress Working Committee after party's debacle in the Lok Sabha elections.

However, his offer of resignation was unanimously rejected by the CWC.

The meeting between Rahul Gandhi and Chief Ministere&nbsp;comes in the backdrop of continuing suspense over Gandhi's future role in the party.

Gandhi, who became the party president in 2017, offered to step down from his post at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting on May 25, taking moral responsibility for Congress' dismal performance in the 17th general elections.

According to a report by PTI, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy will be present at the meeting with Mr Gandhi today afternoon.

However, his offer of resignation was unanimously rejected by the CWC.

So far, several top leaders have met Gandhi and urged him to continue to lead the party.

Despite senior members making serious attempts to convince the 49-year-old party chief to rethink his decision, he remains unfazed.

The Congress won 52 seats in the recent general elections, which is just eight more than 2014 in the outgoing Lok Sabha.&nbsp;

Meanwhile,&nbsp;Congress workers staged a hunger strike outside party Headquarters in Delhi and&nbsp;urged Gandhi scion&nbsp;to take back his resignation.

"Maharashtra Youth Congress disagrees with his stand taken today on a few media channels. He has taken this stand as he left the party and is willing to join some another party," he wrote on Twitter.

The letter read,&nbsp;"It is with great gratitude and bit of sorrow, I tender my resignation from all the post of primary membership of Congress party with immediate effect. I intend to go on to other opportunities, which will allow me to serve the public.

"Dubey reportedly wrote a letter to Rahul Gandhi welcoming his decision to quit as the party president and emphasised that perhaps it was time for a "non-Gandhi" member to become the party chief.

Amid continuing uncertainty over Gandhi's position, veteran Congress leader M Veerappa Moily on Friday claimed that there was not even "one per cent" chance of the Nehru-Gandhi scion continuing as the party president.

"I do not... (think there) maybe even one per cent (possibility) of his (Gandhi's) coming back."
