<p>Talking to ABC Television, Queensland state Premier Steven Miles expressed concern, stating, "We see a lot of natural disasters, and this is just about the worst I can remember."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The problem is the rain won't stop and until it eases up, we can't get aerial support into remote places," he said.</p>

<p>The Cairns airport faced disruptions, with all flights cancelled or postponed, and images on social media showed planes partially submerged on the tarmac. Despite efforts to drain water, the airport struggled to cope with the volume.</p>

Around 100 residents remained in Gulf Country town, with police urging a full evacuation on Saturday, as Australia's weather forecaster predicted river levels in the area to peak on Sunday, the news agency Reuters reported.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Taking to Twitter, the police shared visuals of the flooding in Burketown and urged all remaining residents to leave.&nbsp;"Police are strongly urging all remaining residents to leave the community of Burketown as soon as possible. This is particularly relevant to the elderly and people with young children," the police tweeted.</p>
