<p>Speaking on the "Bharat bandh" protest organised by the Dalit&nbspoutfits, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati has said that though she supports the protest against the Supreme Court's order on SC/ST Act, she is against the violence spread by the people.</p>

<p>She said, "I support the protest against the SC/ST Act. I have got to know that some people spread violence during the protests, I strongly condemn it. Our party is not behind the violence during the protests".</p>

<p>She also added that strict action should be taken against those who were spreading violence during the protests.</p>

<p>Protest was staged across the northern part of the country by Dalit outfits against the Supreme Court's order on SC/ST Act.</p>

<p>About four people have died and several others were injured in the protest in Madhya Pradesh.</p>

<p>The protests were the outcome of the Supreme Court's March 20 order that had diluted certain provisions of the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, in a bid to protect 'honest' public servants discharging bona fide duties from being blackmailed with false cases under the Act.</p>

<p>The verdict is being widely criticised by the Dalits and the Opposition, who claim that dilution of the Act will lead to more discrimination and crimes against the backward community.&nbsp</p>
