City economists predicted a 0.4 percent expansion and that November would be a high point in 2021, with the ONS data arriving just as the Omicron variant took hold, increasing workforce shortages and prompting the government to impose plan B limits.

It followed a 0.2 percent rise in October.

Another factor driving the rise in GDP, according to the ONS, was the continued expansion of health services as a proportion of economic activity.

Business organisations cautioned that the economy remained sluggish in the face of growing inflation and the Bank of England's threat of raising interest rates.&nbsp;

According to the ONS, the world's fifth-largest economy was 0.7 percent larger in February 2020 than it was in February 2019.

Despite the acceleration in growth in November, GDP is likely to have suffered a knock in December as the Omicron coronavirus type spread over the world.&nbsp;

Union Minister of Civil Aviation Hardeep Singh Puri on Friday showed confidence and ruled out the calculation of several airline companies and aviation experts, which stated about normalcy in the aviation sector will return in 2023. He rather expects it to happen much earlier.

While talking to ANI about normalcy in aviation, Puri said Indian aviation will be back to normalcy after all countrymen are vaccinated in 2021.&nbsp;

"We respect experts' opinions. But in pre-COVID level 4 lakh passengers used to travel in a day. When we started domestic civil aviation on May 25, 2020, on day one there were 30,000 passengers, which increased to 3 lakh 13 thousand till the second wave hit our country. It may have touched four lakh passengers per day and normalcy may have returned but I believe that normalcy will be returned by 2021 after all Indians are vaccinated," Puri said.

In the midst of the pandemic and the COVID second wave, the aviation sector is hit very badly and the passenger load factors have hit a recorded low. "When the second wave came and this passenger traffic came down to 40,000 last week. On Thursday it increased to 80,000 and later it will continue to increase with the decline in COVID cases," said the Union Minister.

The Union Minister emphasised on the positivity rate of COVID cases in Delhi and provided the data. "Delhi's positivity rate is 0.6 per cent and recovery rate is also 90-92 per cent and the mortality rate is also low. This means if you test more than 100 people you only find one person positive," Puri added.

Puri has always advocated for easing restrictions in aviation sectors to see how the virus behaves. "I believe before the second wave of Covid, the aviation sector was about to touch 4 lakh passengers a day as we handled 3 lakh 13 thousand passengers before the second wave starts," he added.

The government has issued orders regarding the sudden change in the number of COVID-19 cases in the second wave, and reduction in passenger numbers and reduction in occupancy by reducing the existing capacity from 80 per cent to 50 per cent.

Pre-COVID level normalcy in civil aviation to return next year: Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri

The Tamil Nadu state Economy may revert to pre-Covid levels in about two months, an expert committee has said based on the revenue from GST collections, petrol and power consumption. 
 
They also pegged the state’s economic growth at 1.71% for the year 2021, while expressing caution about a possible further dip. The committee submitted its report to Tamil Nadu chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami at the Secretariat on Monday.&nbsp;

Led by Former RBI Governor C. Rangarajan, the committee was appointed by the Tamil Nadu government, in May, to suggest measures for economic recovery after the pandemic-induced slump and the period of inactivity during the lockdown. The 24-member committee sought views from industry bodies, trade associations, stakeholders, and experts in economics from India and abroad.&nbsp;

The major recommendations of the committee include the rolling out of an Urban employment guarantee scheme (similar to rural employment guarantee scheme), hiking the capital expenditure by Rs.10, 000 crore and also expeditiously spending the Rs.3, 200 crore in the construction workers welfare fund to generate employment opportunities.&nbsp;

Speaking to reporters, Rangarajan pointed out that the state’s debt would only increase this year, owing to the higher expenditure on the healthcare front and lower income to the state’s coffers. However, he suggested that the government must ramp up its spending amid times of low demand.&nbsp;

Also mentioned was the recommendation to increase the healthcare spend by Rs.5000 Crore. The committee recommended the extension of free distribution of rice to cardholders via the Public distribution system (PDS or ration shops) beyond November.&nbsp;

 
In terms of the industrial sector, the committee has recommended increasing the capital of Tamil Nadu Industrial Investment Corporation to Rs.1, 000 crore so that the organization can lend long term. “Setting up of industrial parks and industrial townships and bringing in the credit guarantee scheme for small scale industries are other recommendations,” Rangarajan said.

Tamil Nadu, known as the automobile hub of India is among the states that are worst hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. The state has recorded a total of 5.36 lakh positive cases, of which 4.81 lakh have recovered. Over 46,453 cases are active in the state and over 8700 individuals have lost their battle to the deadly virus.
