Public broadcaster Prasar Bharati has decided to close down All India Radio's national channel and its regional training academies in five cities as part of "cost-cutting measures" and to "rationalise" services.

The clarifications come two days after a news website after quoted Prasar Bharati Chairman A Surya Prakash as saying that the public broadcaster had to pay staff salary for January and February out of its contingency funds as the Information and Broadcasting had not released the funds

With this appointment, Prakash will serve a second term in the public broadcaster. Before this Prakash headed Prasar Bharti for three years from 2014 to October 2014
