Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said Rs 1,000 crore will be allocated by the Centre for immediate assistance to West Bengal after the state was ravaged by Cyclone Amphan, leaving at least 80 people dead.

PM Modi announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakhs to the next of kin of the persons deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the persons who got seriously injured due to Cyclone Amphan in parts of West Bengal.

"Under the leadership of CM Mamata Banerjee, West Bengal is doing its bit in fighting the crisis caused by Cyclone Amphan," he was quoted by PTI as saying in West Bengal's Basirhat.&nbsp;

Earlier, the PM and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee conducted an aerial survey of the affected areas.

This is PM Modi’s first visit outside since March 24, the day the nationwide lockdown was announced.&nbsp;

CM Mamata Banerjee said that 80 people have lost their lives and contended that the calamity is ‘more than a national disaster’.&nbsp;

The Prime Minister’s visit comes a day after Mamata urged PM Modi to visit the affected areas and sought financial help for the state.&nbsp;

The Prime Minister had assured that the Centre was working in close coordination with the West Bengal government to help those affected.&nbsp;

“No stone will be left unturned in helping the affected,” he had tweeted.
