<p>"Preliminary information indicates companies arrived at 6:40 a.m. and found heavy fire coming from the second floor of a three-story rowhouse," the Philadelphia Fire Department tweeted. "It took 50 minutes to place the fire under control."</p>

<p>The ages of those that died were not immediately known. According to neighbours, the house was home to a number of children.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Around 6:40 am Wednesday, a fire broke out in the 800 block of N. 23rd Street.</p>

<p>Heavy flames were leaping from the second storey of the three-storey row house when firefighters arrived.</p>
