China on Saturday ratified the Paris agreement on climate change after the National People&#39;s Congress legislature voted to adopt &quot;the proposal to review and ratify the Paris Agreement&quot;, reported the official Xinhua news agency. 
 
The Paris pact calls for capping global warming below two degree Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) and 1.5 C (2.7 F) if possible. 
 
China, the world&#39;s biggest polluter, contributes to around 25 per cent of global carbon emissions. The United States stands second with 15 per cent. 
 
The Paris deal will come into effect 30 days after at least 55 countries ratify it. These countries account for 55 per cent of global greenhouse emissions. 
 
While 175 countries have signed the Paris deal, only 23 have ratified it, including France and some island countries. 
 
The accord aims to cap global warming and aid poor countries facing an onslaught of climate damage.
