Rescue efforts to dig out possible survivors buried under the rubble of a massive landslide in Papua New Guinea (PNG) are facing significant dangers and challenges, a United Nations official said on Monday.

Over 2,000 people were buried by a landslide on Friday, according to the Papua New Guinea government, which has officially requested assistance from abroad. The government estimate is around three times higher than the 670 estimate made by the UN.
