Ten Pakistani nationals living illegally in India arrested in Bengaluru

Four foreign nationals, with Pakistani identification cards, on Thursday (Feb 22) faced charges of transporting suspected Iran-made weapons using a vessel, which was intercepted in the Arabian Sea by US naval forces last month. In the mission, two Navy SEALs had lost their lives.

On Thursday (Feb 22), a criminal complaint was unsealed in the US District Court in Richmond in which it was alleged that the four defendants were transferring suspected Iranian-made missile components. These components are used in the type of weapons which have been used by Houthi rebel forces in recent attacks.

"The flow of missiles and other advanced weaponry from Iran to Houthi rebel forces in Yemen threatens the people and interests of America and our partners in the region," said Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, in a press release.

US officials said that, on January 11, Navy Special Warfare Operator 1st Class Christopher J Chambers was boarding the boat and slipped inside the gap which was created by the combatant craft of the SEALs and the high waves between the vessel.

After Chambers fell, Navy Special Warfare Operator 2nd Class Nathan Gage Ingram jumped into the sea with the hope of saving him, as per the US officials.

"Two Navy SEALs tragically lost their lives in the operation that thwarted the defendants charged today from allegedly smuggling Iranian-made weapons that the Houthis could have used to target American forces and threaten freedom of navigation and a vital artery for commerce," Monaco added.

He is also facing charges of providing false information to US Coast Guard officers while boarding the vessel. The co-defendants of Pahlawan — Mohammad Mazhar, Ghufran Ullah and Izhar Muhammad — are also facing the charge of providing false information.

Pahlawan's attorney and Assistant Supervisory Federal Public Defender Amy Austin said that he had made an initial appearance in US District Court and will again attend court for detention hearing on Tuesday (Feb 27).

"Right now, he's just charged with two crimes and we're just at the very beginning stages, and so all we know is what's in the complaint," said Austin, reported Associated Press.

Fifty-two Pakistani immigrants deported by the US have arrived here by a special flight amid tight security, a media report said Thursday.

Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi informed the National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs on Tuesday that US authorities detained and prosecuted the Pakistani nationals for immigration violations, criminal conduct and other serious charges.

Dawn newspaper, quoting immigration sources, reported that 53 Pakistanis were scheduled to be deported, but 52 arrived on Wednesday as one person fell sick at the US airport and was not sent back.

US security officials were guarding the Pakistani deportees when they arrived at the Islamabad International Airport. Soon after landing, they asked the Pakistani authorities to take custody of the deportees who had been arrested by the US police.

The Trump administration recently launched a crackdown on the foreigners who stayed in the US even after the expiry of their visas. The 52 Pakistanis were among those who overstayed in the US, the report said.

A senior official of the Federal Investigation Agency said the deportees were allowed to go after verification of their travel documents. The official parried a question about the fate of those involved in petty crimes and deported by the US, the report said.

Qureshi had also confirmed that the US denied visas to three senior Pakistani officials following a row between the two countries over the deportation of dozens of Pakistanis in America for their visa overstay and other allegations.

The Pakistani officials who faced US visa restrictions are an additional secretary, a joint secretary of the interior ministry and the director general passports, the minister said on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, nine Pakistani illegal immigrants deported from Greece were taken into custody after their arrival at Islamabad International Airport by a separate flight and shifted to the FIA's Anti-Human Trafficking Cell.

The FIA official said the deportees were kept at the cell's jail for further legal proceeding as they had gone to Europe through land route and were later caught by the Greek authorities.

US deports 52 Pakistani nationals for staying with expired visa

Pune district administration on Thursday granted Indian citizenship to 45 Pakistani nationals, who had migrated to India long back and were staying in the city for the past many years.

Fearing atrocities in their native nation the applicants, who belonged to the minority community had migrated from Pakistan.

"The Collector Office Pune has issued a certificate to 45 people today. These applications were pending at several levels and offices including FRO and other offices for so many years. We have done away with the tedious process of granting citizenship which took months and years and have made it hassle-free," Pune District Collector Naval Kishore Ram said.

"After the amendment in the Citizenship Act, the district collector has been empowered to give citizenship to applicants from the minorities. As per that amendment, I have given the citizenship to these persons after I got clearances from the Intelligence Bureau (IB). I called them on a single day for signing on all affidavits and have cleared their application as these rights are now with the collector" he said. Talking about his struggles in Pakistan, Jaykash Nebhvani, one of the migrants who got the Indian Citizenship told ANI,

"We faced a lot of troubles in Pakistan and then struggled here to get nationality, finally we got it."

"It has been 20 years now, we came here to attend a marriage and I said to my husband that we must stay here only. There we were afraid of even stepping outside our houses because of the kidnappings and other things," said another migrant Laj Virwani.

Echoing similar sentiments Rakhi Aswani said, "I came here in 2008 and because of my Pakistani passport it was hard for me to go out of India and I have to take special permission from the government to go and meet my family in the Philippines. But now I have Indian citizenship and can go anywhere."

While Om Prakash asserted that Pakistan was 'unsafe' place. There, parents are afraid of letting their children go outside because of the kidnappings and other crimes.
