At least two Pakistani Army officers were killed in an attack at a security checkpost in Spinwamn region in North Waziristan district after unidentified armed militants opened gunfire, the military's media affairs reported on Monday.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said, "two militants were killed in the gunfire, while two others were apprehended with ammunition." It added two Army officers were also killed, PTI reported.&nbsp;

The military's media said that the area was being combed to flush out the militants.&nbsp;

As of now, no terror group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and paid his condolences to the families of the two Army officers.&nbsp;

This incident comes amid an increase in terror attacks across Pakistan, which has been hit by a wave of terrorism, especially in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh province.

Last week, at least five were killed after a suicide squad stormed a police compound in Karachi.

On January 30, a Taliban suicide bomber blew himself up during the afternoon prayers in a mosque which killed over 100 people and injured over 200.&nbsp;

Similarly, in November 2022, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) called for an indefinite ceasefire agreed with the government in June and ordered its militants to carry out attacks on military forces.&nbsp;

To stop such attacks, last week the Pakistan defence minister and security chief held a meeting with the Taliban-led Afghanistan government to discuss ways to counter the "threat of terrorism."

The Taliban-led government also proposed to Pakistan that it should bear the cost of disarming and rehabilitating the outlawed TTP members and their families numbering more than 30,0000 from the Pak-Afghan border areas.

According to the source, the firing took place in Balochistan's Chaman area, where children and women were also among the injured.&nbsp;

This is the second such incident reported of firing by the Afghan troops. A similar instance occurred on December 10, which claimed the lives of eight Pakistanis and one Afghan soldier along with 16 injured. &nbsp;

Pakistan&#39;s Foreign secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhary summoned the Afghan ambassador to Pakistan Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal and lodged &quot;strong protest&quot; over the killing of Major Ali Jawad Khan, Foreign Office (FO) said in a statement. 
 
Khan was injured on June 13 due to what Pakistan claims to be an unprovoked firing by Afghan security forces over the contentious fencing issue at the North-Western Torkham border crossing. He died of injuries yesterday. 
 
The foreign secretary also asked Afghanistan to take immediate steps to bring the &quot;unprovoked firing&quot; to an end. 
 
Chaudhary expressed concern over the continued firing by the Afghan forces for last few days with a view to disrupt the construction work aimed at strengthening effective border management. 
 
The foreign secretary stressed that the Pakistani side was only undertaking construction work on its side to regulate the movement of people as well as vehicles, with prior agreement of the Afghan Government. 
 
He rejected Afghanistan&#39;s allegations that the construction work undertaken by Pakistan violated the agreements and understandings reached between the two countries. 
 
It was reiterated that this construction work is being undertaken on the Pakistani side, and was started after the two sides had agreed on it during the meetings held last month. 
 
Underscoring the importance of border management for strengthening mutual security and checking infiltration of terrorists and militants, Chaudhary emphasised the need for resolving this issue through constructive engagement, FO said.
